多様な研究分野や教育活動に取り組む先生方と共に過ごし、さらにその先生方が受賞された栄誉を分かち合うことができたのは、大きな喜びでした。本学では10年以上にわたり、教員の研究成果を顕彰する機会を設けてまいりました。いま総長として改めて申し上げるべきことは、法政大学の研究が実に活発であるという点です。その一つの指標として、THE世界大学ランキング2025において、本学の『研究の質』は、医学部を有する大学を除く日本の私立大学の中で第1位という高い評価を得ています。
受賞者の分野は、人文社会科学から理工系に至るまで実に多岐にわたり、その広がりが本学の研究の多様性を示しています。
受賞の内容も幅広く、「最優秀論文賞」や「最優秀著書賞」といったものから、長年の功績や学問分野・学会への貢献に対する表彰までさまざまでした。本学教員は、広く知られている「グッドデザイン賞」などに加え、高度に専門化された学術分野での顕彰も受けています。また、自らの研究や専門分野をわかりやすく伝える力が、教育や学会活動において高く評価されていることも印象的でした。
特に心に残ったのは、多くの先生方が若手研究者や大学院生の共同研究者に功績を帰し、将来への期待を述べられていたことです。先生方はすでに第一線で活躍する研究者であるのは言うまでもありませんが、その研究について語られる姿や研究に込められた経緯を伺うなかで、卓越した指導者としての一面も垣間見ることができました。
It was a privilege to be in the company of faculty members engaged in such diverse areas of research and education—and, on top of that, to celebrate with them the accolades they have received. For more than 10 years, we have been honoring the achievements of our faculty. As president now, I feel obliged to spread the word: research is thriving at Hosei University! As one indicator, in the THE World University Rankings 2025, Hosei University was ranked first in 'Research Quality' among Japanese private universities without medical schools—a highly commendable result.
The long list of awardees came from across the social sciences and humanities, as well as from the full spectrum of fields within science, technology, and engineering.
Some were recognized with “best paper” or “best book” awards, while others received honors for lifelong achievement, for advancing their field of study, and for contributing to academic communities. Our faculty members received distinctions that are household names, such as the “Good Design Award,” as well as honors within highly specialized or discipline-specific academic circles. Notably, the ability to clearly communicate one’s research has also been, quite deservedly, recognized—whether in an educational context or at academic conferences.
What impressed me most was how many professors gave credit to their younger collaborators and expressed high expectations for their graduate students. They are, of course, accomplished researchers—but in hearing them talk about their work and the stories behind it, I also caught a glimpse of them as outstanding mentors.
