野菜好きの私にとっては、とても嬉しいニュースです。
LED植物工場での養液栽培により、この栄養価の高いエダマメを、世界で初めて畑での栽培を上回る収量でおいしく育てることに成功しました。
都市のビルの中でも、さらには宇宙でも一年中栽培できる未来が見えてきます。食料問題の解決にもつながる、目が離せない研究ですね！

Did you know that one of our university’s research projects ranked No. 2 in Sunday Mainichi’s “University Press Center News Access Rankings” (August 21–September 20, 2025)?
It’s a research project on edamame by Professor Sano of Hosei’s Faculty of Bioscience and Applied Chemistry!
As a vegetable lover myself, I was delighted by this news.
Using a nutrient solution cultivation system in an LED plant factory, Professor Sano and his team succeeded, for the first time in the world, in growing highly nutritious edamame that not only tastes great but also surpasses field cultivation in yield.
The research opens up a vision of a future where edamame can be grown year-round—in urban buildings, or even in space. It’s a development that could help solve global food challenges—definitely one to keep an eye on!
