ガラス箱オフィスアワーセンター(GBC)の学生スタッフの皆さん

GBCのことは以前から知っていましたし、2024年度第8回「自由を生き抜く実践知大賞」で、「よき師よき友の共感賞」と「よき師よき友が選ぶ実践知賞」の2つの賞を受賞されたことも伺っていました。けれども、これまで学生スタッフの皆さんと直接お話しする機会はありませんでした。今回、ようやくその機会をいただくことができました。

GBCには約30名の学生スタッフがいて、それぞれが週に2〜3コマほど担当していること、また、GBCは週5日、2限から5限まで開いていることを伺いました。

皆さんは笑顔で迎えてくださり、私の質問にも一つひとつ丁寧に、落ち着いて答えてくださいました。負担に感じることはないのですか。そう尋ねると、答えを聞く前から、皆さんの表情が「そんなふうに考えたこともない」と語っているようでした。「いえ、授業の合間に来ているだけなので」。この活動のどんなところが楽しいですか。「相談に来た学生が、ありがとうと言ってくれたり、笑顔で帰っていったりすると嬉しいです」。困った学生さんが来ることはありませんか。そう聞くと、皆さんは笑っていました。「いえ……来る学生は課題の相談が多いので、意欲があって真面目な学生が多いです」。

情報科学部には2つの学科と3つのコースがあり、学生たちは実にさまざまなプロジェクトに取り組んでいます。答えられない質問もあるのではないですか。「うーん……あまりないですね。でも、もし自分たちだけではすぐに解決できないことがあっても、一緒に考えながら、解決していきます」。

もし私が情報科学部の学生だったら、きっと皆さんに相談しに行くと思います。

I have known about GBC at the Faculty of Computer and Iinformation Sciences for a long time, and I was also aware that this initiative won two awards at the 8th “Practical Wisdom for Freedom” Awards in 2024: the “Good Mentors, Good Friends Empathy Award” and the “Practical Wisdom Award Chosen by Good Mentors and Good Friends.” However, I had never had a chance to talk with the student staff. Finally, I got the opportunity.

I learned that there are about 30 student staff members, and that each of them spends about two to three class periods per week at GBC. The office is open five days a week, from the second through fifth periods.

They greeted me with big smiles and answered all my questions patiently and thoughtfully. Don’t you find it a burden? Their expressions showed me, even before they answered, that they had never thought of it that way. “No, I just come between classes.” What do you enjoy about the activity? “It’s nice when students who came for help thank us and leave with a smile!” Aren’t there ever unpleasant people? They all laughed at this question. “No… students mostly come for help with assignments, so they’re motivated and serious.”

The Faculty of Information Science has two departments and three courses, and students are involved in so many different kinds of projects. Aren’t there questions you can’t answer? “Hmm… not really. But if there are problems we can’t solve, we sit down with them and work through the problem together!”

If I were a student in the Faculty of Information Science, I would definitely seek their help!
