法政のトップボクサーたち

とても和やかな面談でしたが、向かいに座る二人のボクサーからは、内に秘めた静かな力が感じられました。これほどの実力を持つボクサーであれば当然なのかもしれませんが、今回の出会いには、それ以上のものがありました。

森脇唯人さんとシルバ・イエシュアさんは、それぞれスーパーミドル級とミドル級で活躍してきた選手です。いずれもスピードとノックアウトパワーを兼ね備えた階級として知られ、数々の名ボクサーを生み出してきました。2017年から2022年まで全日本選手権で5連覇を果たした森脇さんが語ってくれたのは、ノックアウトそのものではなく、海外での経験でした。海外のボクサーとのコミュニケーション、ボクシングへの異なる向き合い方、そしてそうした経験を通じて自分自身が豊かになっていくこと。学生たちにグローバルな機会を広げたいと願ってきた私にとって、これほど嬉しく、希望を感じる話はありませんでした。さらに、シルバ・イエシュアさんも海外デビューを予定しているとのことです。

私は全くの素人ですが、以前ジムで基本的なステップを少し教えていただいたことがあり、そのわずかな体験からも、ボクシングが「最もシンプルでありながら、最も奥深い格闘技の一つ」と言われる理由を実感しました。拳だけで戦う明快な競技でありながら、そこにはタイミング、距離感、駆け引き、戦略、規律、そして精神的な強さが凝縮されています。

It was a very cordial meeting, but I could sense the quiet power held in reserve by the two boxers sitting across from me. Perhaps this is only to be expected from boxers of this caliber, but there was much more to the encounter.

Yuito Moriwaki and Silva Yeshua competed in the super middleweight and middleweight categories, respectively — divisions known for combining speed with knockout power, and for producing a long line of legendary boxers. A five-time consecutive champion of the All Japan Boxing Championships from 2017 to 2022, Moriwaki chose to speak not so much about knockouts, but about his experiences overseas: communicating with boxers from other countries, learning different approaches to boxing, and being enriched by those encounters. As someone who has long been promoting global opportunities for our students, I could not have been more pleased — or more hopeful. What’s more, Silva Yeshua is also scheduled to make his overseas debut.

I am a complete novice, but after once learning a few basic boxing steps at a gym, I came to understand why boxing is often described as both the simplest and one of the most profound combat sports. With only the fists, the rules may appear straightforward, yet the sport demands extraordinary timing, distance, strategy, discipline, and mental strength.

法政大学キャリアデザイン学部2年。高校時は高校総体、国体合わせて5冠を獲得。2025年に本学入学後、滋賀国民スポーツ大会3位、全日本選手権準優勝。
【森脇唯人選手】
2017年～2022年に全日本選手権を5連覇。東京オリンピック日本代表。プロ転向後、3戦目でOPBF＆WBOアジアパシフィックスーパーミドル級王座を奪取。
