法政大学アメリカン・フットボールチームの皆さん

この3人の学生は、私にチームワーク、強さ、そして情熱とは何かを教えてくれました。

チームワークとは、何よりもまず信頼のことです。フィールドで仲間を信じること。何時間もデータ分析に取り組んできたSA（スチューデントアシスタント）とともに練り上げた戦略を信じること。そして、チームの強さや魅力を的確に捉え、それを伝えるマーケティングスタッフを信じることです。
強さやパワーは、単に身体的な力だけから生まれるものではありません。もちろん、アメリカンフットボールにおいてそれが非常に重要であることは言うまでもありません。しかしそれだけでなく、精神的な強さ、集中力、そして困難に立ち向かう粘り強さからも生まれるのです。

「練習は楽しいですか？」どうやら私は、間違った質問をしてしまったようです。楽しいかどうかは、そもそも考える対象ではないのです。ライバルに勝ち、勝利をつかみたいという思いこそが、日々のトレーニングへと駆り立てているのです。アメリカンフットボールの知識が足りないとしても、それは過去の試合を何時間も見て分析し、次の戦略を考える努力によって十分に補われています。新しいシーズンに向けて、マーケティングという「ポジション」に立つということは、クリエイティブな制作に取り組むだけではありません。大学の広報課と連携し、このスポーツを広めていくことも意味しています。
これが情熱でなくて、いったい何が情熱なのでしょうか。

These three students taught me about teamwork, strength, and passion.

Teamwork, first and foremost, is about trust—trusting your teammates on the field, trusting the strategy developed alongside the SA (student assistant) who has spent countless hours analyzing data, and trusting the marketing staff to capture and convey the team’s strength and spirit.
Strength and power do not come only from physical force—though in American football that is undeniably crucial—but also from mental toughness, focus, and resilience.

Is training enjoyable? It seems I asked the wrong question. Whether it is enjoyable or not lies outside the realm of consideration. The drive to defeat rivals and to win fuels the training. Any lack of prior knowledge of American football is more than compensated for by hours spent watching and dissecting past games to devise strategies for the next. Preparing for the new season, being “positioned” in marketing means not only producing creative content but also reaching out to the University PR division to build a partnership to promote the sport.
If all this is not passion, what is?
