法政大学中学高等学校生徒の皆さん

午後のひととき、高校生たちが失敗や挫折から何を学び、それを糧にして大好きなスポーツでより強く、自信を持ち、成長してきたかを語る姿に耳を傾けることができたのは、本当にうれしい時間でした。仲間でいっぱいの会場で、第二言語でスピーチをするというのは、勇気だけでなく、何時間にも及ぶ準備があってこそ成し遂げられるものです。そうした経験そのものと、そこに注いだ努力は、これからも間違いなく彼らの成長を支えていくことでしょう。

また、生徒会の4名とじっくり話す機会を得られたことも、とても意義深い時間となりました。学習スペースや制服、キャッシュレス化、文化祭でのフード出店など、学校において実現したいさまざまなテーマについて、実に明快に語ってくれました。16歳未満のSNSアカウントを禁止するオーストラリアの法律についても、よく考え抜かれた意見を示し、ソーシャルメディア・リテラシーの重要性を認めたうえで、その育成方法について具体的な提案をしてくれました。

ダイバーシティ、エクイティ＆インクルージョンや外国語学習の意義についての議論では、建設的な批判的視点も示してくれました。また、大学と付属高校との連携をより強めることで、生徒が自らの将来を描いていくうえでの支援を充実させたいという思いも語ってくれました。将来の進路についてはまだ柔軟な姿勢を保ちながらも、これまでの志の変化を振り返り、目の前の計画と長期的な夢の双方について具体的に語る姿から、確かな自己理解が感じられました。

生徒たちの未来は明るい――そしてそれは、私たちにとっても同じです。より活力に満ちた、思いやりのある社会を築いていく担い手になることを、私は確信しています。本日出会ったすべての生徒を、心から誇りに思います。
 

It was a true pleasure to spend the afternoon listening to high school students reflect on how they have learned from failures and setbacks—growing stronger, more confident, and more accomplished in the sports they love. Standing before a hall full of peers to deliver a speech in a second language requires not only courage, but also hours of preparation. Both their experiences and the effort they invested will undoubtedly continue to shape their growth.

The pleasure was deepened by a thoughtful conversation with four members of the student association. They spoke eloquently about the changes they hope to see in their schools—study spaces, uniforms, cashless systems, food stalls at school festivals, and more. They offered well-considered views on the Australian law prohibiting social media accounts for those under 16, affirmed the importance of social media literacy, and proposed practical ways to cultivate it.

They were constructively critical in our discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as the value of learning foreign languages. They advocated for stronger connections between the university and the affiliated high schools to better support students in shaping their future paths. While still open to where their paths may lead, they demonstrated impressive self-awareness—reflecting on how their aspirations have evolved over time and speaking with clarity about both their immediate plans and their long-term dreams.

The future is bright—not only for them, but for all of us. I have every confidence that they will help shape a more vibrant and compassionate society. I am proud of every student I met this afternoon.
