「一新」――この二文字には、実に深い意味が宿っています。
初心に立ち返り、進化するように新しく生まれ変わること。
チームと個人のバランスをどう取っていくのか。試合でプレッシャーを感じた時に、どう向き合うのか。トレーニングで何に心をかけているのか――。私が投げかけた一つひとつの問いに、皆さんが丁寧に答えてくれました。性格やスタイルはそれぞれ異なりますが、共通して感じたのは、この「一新」という言葉でつながる一体感です。 個々の努力に加え、チーム全体としてのまとまり、そして競技に向き合う高い志。“更新された”気持ちで前へ進もうとするエネルギーが、そこにありました。
ホームページを見ると、次のように記されています。
「visionは価値観が多様化する現代において、正しく成長するためには個人の特性が最大限発揮できることが重要となる。…チームが個人の成長を支える器となり、個人の成長がチームという器をより大きくする。…勝利を唯一の目的とせず、勝利を目指し最大の努力・成長することで競争社会を正しく生き抜く力を習得すること。勇気をもって一歩先を進み、社会の変革を牽引できる組織、人であること。」
また、ミッションとして「突き抜けるほどの自由を追求すること。広く広くどこまでも広く。スポーツを通じて自由とは何か考え、学び、実践し、自由の真の価値を実践知として体得する。」とあります。――まさに本学が目指している姿そのものです。
法政大学ボート部は長い歴史を誇り、波はあっても、常に強豪校としての存在感を持ち続けていると感じています。今年度の成績は抜群!*

"Isshin" (Renewal) — these two characters hold a truly profound meaning.
It is about returning to our beginnings, and being reborn through growth and evolution.
How do they balance individuality and teamwork? How do they handle pressure in competition? What drives them in their training?To each of the questions I posed, the members responded thoughtfully, one by one.
Though each has a distinct personality, yet what I felt in common among them was a deep sense of unity—one that connects them through the idea of Isshin.” Alongside their individual efforts, there was a strong cohesion as a team and a shared passion for the sport itself. Within that, I felt the energy of a renewed spirit – a collective drive to move forward with refreshed determination.
On their website, I came across the following description:
“In today’s world, where values are increasingly diverse, true growth requires that each individual’s unique qualities be fully expressed. The team serves as the vessel that supports individual growth, and individual growth in turn enlarges the vessel that is the team. The goal is not victory alone, but rather to gain the strength to navigate a competitive society with integrity. Through striving for victory and giving one’s utmost effort to grow, we learn what it means to take that step forward with courage and become an organization and individuals who can lead social change.”
Their mission further states:
“To pursue freedom that breaks through all limits. Broadly, deeply, infinitely. Through sports, we think about, learn, and practice what freedom truly means, and embody its real value as practical wisdom.”
Don’t these words perfectly capture the very ideals our university seeks to realize?
Hosei Crew has a long and distinguished history. Though it has its share of highs and lows, I believe it has maintained its status as a powerhouse in collegiate rowing. This year’s results are indeed outstanding! *
