笑い声が部屋から漏れてきたのではと少し心配しながらも、あっという間に楽しい会話の時間が過ぎました。お話し相手は、とても明るい生協学生委員の皆さんでした。
多くの学生が生協に加入していると思いますが、会員の学生のために「働く」学生もいます。これらの学生が活動に関わるきっかけはさまざまですが、勉強に励みながら、学生の視点から学生のために、企画や運営に積極的に取り組んでいます。皆さんの健康を見直すイベントはなかなか面白い企画で、体内にどれだけの野菜が残っているかも測ることができます！また、良い活動を続けるために、そして、せっかくのご縁なので、3つのキャンパスの学生委員が交流できる合宿の企画もあります。
「楽しい」と皆さんがおっしゃったので、大変なことがないか聞いてみました。まあ、大人数の合宿などは大変だったそうですが、「皆さんが良い人なので」、なんとか乗り越えられました。皆さんも同感のようでした。一人ではできないことも、チームなら達成できる。これは当然かもしれませんが、チームをうまくまとめ、メンバーとして役割を果たすのは簡単ではないですね。誰かのために活動しているということ自体がモチベーションになり、社会に出る際にも軸になると、皆が話していました。この活動を通じて、成長している学生たちが目の前に見えています。こうした学生なら、安心して社会に送り出せると思います。
大学についてもお話を伺いました。キャンパスの良さ、学びの幅、さまざまな専攻の学生と交流しながら得られる学びや楽しさ。本学の目指すべき姿も十分に備わっていますね。
While I was a little worried that laughter might be spilling out of the room, the lively conversations made the time fly by. I was talking with the very positive student committee members of the university coop.
Many students are coop members, but some go further and work for the benefit of others. Their paths into the committee vary, yet they all devote themselves to planning and managing activities from a student’s perspective while balancing their studies. For instance, in an event aimed at promoting student health, they introduced a device that measures how many vegetables remain inside the body! To sustain and expand such activities, they also run a camp where students from the three campuses can connect with one another through the coop network.
Since everyone said their work was “enjoyable,” I asked if there was anything particularly difficult. One student admitted that large camps could be tough, but because “everyone is so nice,” she somehow managed to pull through—and the others nodded in agreement. Another reflected that even tasks beyond an individual’s ability can be achieved as a team. That may sound obvious, but organizing a group and fulfilling one’s role within it is not as easy as it looks. The very act of doing something for someone else was a source of motivation, and everyone said it would also become a guiding principle when they step out into society. I felt I was witnessing, right before my eyes, how much these students had grown and matured through these experiences. It reassures me that we can send them out into society with confidence.
I also asked them about the university. Their answers? A convenient and well-designed campus. The wide range of subjects to explore. The enriching exchanges with students from different fields! In other words, exactly what we strive for as a university.
