スーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業シンポジウムを開催しました（10/22） HOSEI University Top Global University Project (SGU) Symposium was held

本学は、2014年度に採択された「スーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業」の一環として、世界のどこでも生き抜く力を備えた人材を育成するため、様々な事業を展開して参りました。
今回のシンポジウムでは、スーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業の終了を迎える今、世界から求められる人材について議論を深め、本学におけるスーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業の成果を発信することを目的に開催されました。

 開会に先立ち、小秋元常務理事より、本学のスーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業の構想名称（課題解決先進国日本からサステイナブル社会を構想するグローバル大学の創成）や国際化について紹介がありました。その後、本学のスーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業における５つの目標や当該目標に向かい、行ってきた留学機会の多様化や英語学位課程の設置、外国人留学生受入のための環境整備、高大連携事業について説明がありました。

 第一部の基調講演では、2018年に日本研究への貢献で外務大臣表彰を受賞のカリフォルニア大学バークレー校教授のSteven K. Vogel氏より「日米マーケットデザインの比較研究」について講演がありました。講演に対して、廣瀬総長より、ご自身の研究分野についても触れながらコメントがありました。次に吉武 博通　学校法人　東京家政学院理事長より、「大学が求められる学生に提供すべき環境について」をテーマに、真のグローバル化を大学に根づかせるための課題などについて講演があり、木内 真理子　特定非営利活動法人ワールド・ビジョン・ジャパン事務局長からは、グローバル人材に求められることについて紹介がありました。そして、鈴木 雅則　株式会社セールスフォース・ジャパン　常務執行役員　人事本部長より　「産業界の視点から活躍できる人材と今後ますます求められること」について講演がありました。
最後に、本学の卒業生である河本孝志　関西ペイント株式会社　経営企画本部　M&A戦略部　部長より、自身のキャリアの軌跡と本学在学生につたえたいことについて講演がありました。

 第二部では、出演者によるパネルディスカッションが行われました。
コーディネーターの福岡グローバル教養学部 学部長による進行のもと、ダイアナ・コー常務理事も交え、それぞれの視点から今後どのような人材が求められるかなどについて活発な意見交換が行われました。参加者から寄せられた質問にも触れながら、今回のテーマを掘り下げた意義のあるパネルディスカッションとなり、小秋元常務理事からコメントも寄せられました。最後は廣瀬総長からの今回のシンポジウムの総括及び出演頂いたパネリストへの謝辞があり、オンラインも含め約80名の方々にご参加いただいたシンポジウムは閉会となりました。

The HOSEI University Top Global University Project (SGU) Symposium, Beyond “Global Human Resources”: What kind of human resources are sought after in today’s world?, was held on-site in Sky Hall, on the 26th floor of Boissonade Tower, Ichigaya Campus, from 10am on October 22 (Sunday), 2023, and also live-streamed.

Since being chosen as a Top Global University in 2014, Hosei University has been committed to cultivating graduates who can thrive anywhere in the world through diverse and sustained efforts. As we bring the Top Global University Project to a closure, we held this symposium to deepen discussions on the qualities we should aim to cultivate in our students in today’s world and share the fruits of Hosei University’s efforts as a Top Global University.

In the opening remarks, Vice President Dan Koakimoto introduced the title of our SGU initiative, “Creating the Global University: Toward a sustainable society from pioneering Japan”, and efforts in globalizing the university. Through the five goals of the SGU initiative, VP Koakimoto explained the expansion of our study abroad programs, establishment of English degree programs, improvement of the environment for the intake of international students, as well as collaborative programs with high schools.

The first session began with the keynote address delivered by Professor Steven K. Vogel of the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Vogel is a recipient of the Foreign Minister's Commendation in 2018 for his contribution to Japan Studies, and he spoke on “Cooperative Studies of Japan and the U.S. Market Design”. In his response to Professor Vogel’s lecture, President Katsuya Hirose also related that his research field connects to that of Professor Vogel’s. 

Following Professor Vogel’s keynote address and the President’s response, four speakers presented their thoughts on “global human resources”. Professor Hiromichi Yoshitake, President of Tokyo Kasei Gakuin University, focused on the environment that universities should provide for their students and commented on the challenges of making true globalization take root in the university. Ms. Mariko Kinai, National Director of World Vision Japan, discussed the qualities expected of individuals who work on the global stage. Mr. Masanori Suzuki, Vice President of Salesforce Japan, highlighted qualities increasingly expected of individuals who can play an active role in the corporate world. Mr. Takashi Kawamoto, Director of M&A Strategy Department, Corporate Planning Division of Kansai Paint Co. Ltd., reflected on his career and shared advice with current university students as an alumnus of Hosei University.

In the second session, facilitated by Professor Takamasa Fukuoka, Dean of GIS, Hosei University, the four panelists were joined by Professor Diana Khor, Director of the Global Education Center and also  the Vice President for International Affairs. Professor Khor and the panelists engaged in a lively and meaningful discussion on key topics connected to the theme of the symposium, and there was just sufficient time for Ms. Kinai to answer one question from the audience. VP Koakimoto presented his thoughts on the panel discussion, and to bring the symposium to a close, President Hirose provided an overview of the symposium and thanked the panelists for their contributions as well as the audience of approximately eighty people participating on-site and online.
