法政大学の歴史は、1880年東京法学社の設立にさかのぼります。1883年には政府の法律顧問としてパリ大学教授ボアソナード博士が教頭に就任し、1920年大学令により初めて私立大学の設置が許可され法政大学となりました。
グローバル教養学部（GIS）は、前身となるグローバル学際研究インスティテュート（IGIS）が2006年に開講され、学部設立以来、高度な英語運用能力と学際的教養を身に着けた真のグローバル人材を養成しています。
GISの教育・研究の根幹には、法政大学の校風である「自由と進歩」が息づき、自由の尊重、進取の気象という伝統を引き継いでいます。
現在は、グローバルリーダー育成を目指し、人文学・社会科学・ビジネス分野を中心とするリベラルアーツ教育を提供しています。
Hosei University's history begins in 1880, with the establishment of the Tokyo Hogakusha, or the Tokyo Law Society. Dr. Boissonade, a professor from the University of Paris and government advisor would be appointed as Vice Present in 1883, and in 1920, the University Ordinance permitted the creation of a private University, and this institution became Hosei University. GIS, or the faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies, first came from a proceeding department, IGIS, or the Institute for Global and Interdisciplinary Studies. For more than 15 years, GIS has been nurturing global professionals equipped with both high English proficiency, and interdisciplinary expertise. At its core, GIS education and research continues the Hosei ethos of "Freedom and Progress," carrying the tradition of respect for a free and pioneering spirit. Currently, GIS offers a liberal arts education, focused on social sciences, humanities, and business education, with the goal of creating truly global leaders.
