What is literature? Who decides? How does literature connect to our notions of language, culture, and identity? What separates a literary text from the volumes of information that surround us in our everyday lives?
This seminar is designed for students who wish to explore these questions more rigorously from the viewpoint of both reader and author. We will read and discuss modern and contemporary short stories and critical essays, as well as compose and workshop our own pieces of short fiction.
