The Graduate School Application Support (GSAS) offered another workshop on October 5th, in which GIS staff member Mr. Michael Sullivan provided an overview of a central plank of any graduate school application – the personal statement. Mr. Sullivan worked as an admission officer in many universities in the UK before joining GIS in 2020. Since then, he has helped multiple students with personal statement drafting and application materials for graduate schools. At this workshop, we discussed how students could prepare for their personal statements and looked at some common mistakes that applicants make during the composition process. GSAS hopes to hold several consulting sessions this term, mostly for students who are currently in the process of applying to graduate schools. Students in GSAS are strongly encouraged to contact Mr. Sullivan should they need individual guidance with their applications.

10月5日に秋学期初めのGSAS (Graduate School Application Support)のワークショップを開催しました。今回は、GIS資料室勤務のマイケル・サリバンさんに大学院出願で最も重要とされているPersonal Statementの書き方について教えていただきました。サリバンさんはイギリスの複数の大学の入学センターで勤務された経験をお持ちで、GISでもこれまでに多くの学生たちの大学院出願をサポートされてきました。ワークショップでは、Personal Statementの書き方の説明に加え、よくある間違いについてディスカッションを行いました。この秋学期、GSASでは現在大学院に出願中のGIS生に向けて、相談会を開催予定です。出願を考えている学生はGIS資料室のサリバンさんに個別サポートを受けることも可能ですので、ぜひ資料室に来てください。
