秋学期のGIS Talksの最初の講演者は、ワシントン大学のYen-Chu Weng博士でした。Weng博士はフルブライト講師として、今年の秋学期と来年の春学期にGISで Introduction to Geography や Business Sustainability and SDGs などの特別講義を担当されます。GIS Talkでは、台湾の複数の大学と共同で開発した留学プログラムや、COIL（Collaborative Online International Learning）モジュールについてご紹介いただきました。これらのプログラムはいずれも学生の文化的・国際的・学際的な能力の育成を目指しており、GISの掲げる教育理念にとても近いものがありました。講演では環境教育におけるグローバル・リーダーシップを育むWeng博士の熱意が伝わってきました。参加した教授からは、もう一度学生に戻ってこのプログラムに参加したい！との声が上がりました。
The first speaker for the GIS Talks series this fall was Dr. Yen-Chu Weng from the University of Washington. Dr. Weng received a Fulbright Scholar Award to teach special courses such as Introduction to Geography and Business Sustainability and SDGs at GIS this fall and next spring. In her talk, Dr. Weng shared her experiences with the study abroad program and the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) module that she developed with several universities in Taiwan to cultivate students’ intercultural, international, and interdisciplinary competencies. These initiatives reflect Dr. Weng’s strong commitment to fostering global leadership in environmental education.
