【イベント報告】GSAS 第一回ワークショップ開催 / First GSAS Workshop Held

The 2025 series of Graduate School Application Support (GSAS) workshops began on May 8th. GSAS provides GIS students the opportunity to gain insights about graduate school,  how to prepare and consider which program is right for them. This first session was led by Professor Niiya (supported by Professor Melvin and Professor Suan). It gave an introductory overview of graduate school and its benefits. Each professors shared their personal experiences of studying in graduate schools in the US (Prof. Niiya, Prof. Suan), the UK (Prof. Melvin), and Japan (Prof. Niiya, Prof. Suan), as well as the background to their decisions on why they chose to apply in the first place. Ms. Trang Nguyen from the GIS Reference room also gave insightful comments about going to graduate schools. The session had students at various stages of their undergraduate career, curious about where to begin and how to best prepare for graduate school application. Later sessions of GSAS across the 2025 academic year will further guide interested students through the process of successfully applying for graduate school in Japan or abroad.

2025年の第一回GSASワークショップを5月8日に開催しました。GSASのワークショップでは、GIS生のために大学院進学の準備の仕方や自分に合ったプログラムの選び方など、進学に向けた様々な情報を提供しています。第1回目は、メルビン先生とスアン先生と共に、新谷先生が大学院進学のための基礎知識や進学の利点について紹介しました。アメリカ（新谷教授・スアン教授）、イギリス（メルビン教授）、そして日本（新谷教授・スアン教授）の大学院での自身の経験や、進学を決意した背景について、学生は熱心に聞いていました。GIS資料室のTrang Nguyen さんも大学院進学について的確なアドバイスをしました。様々な学年、準備段階にあるGIS生が参加し、大学院進学の準備をどこから始めるべきか、そもそも大学院に行くべきか、など、関心事も多様でした。今後のGSASワークショップでも、日本国内外の大学院への進学について、さらに詳しいガイダンスが行われる予定です。GSASに興味のある学生はGIS事務室（gis@hosei.ac.jp）を通して、メーリングリストおよび過去のワークショップの資料等へのアクセス権をもらってください。
