新春のお慶びを申し上げます。
2025年、蛇年の幕開けにあたり、皆様にご挨拶申し上げます。蛇は古来より、知恵や変革、再生を象徴する生き物とされております。この象徴に倣い、本学部も更なる発展と飛躍を目指して、知恵を磨き、変革を恐れず進んでまいります。
2025年度は、GISが創設18年目を迎える年であり、私自身も学部長として3年目を迎えます。就任以来、時代の変化に即した改革の旗振り役を担ってまいりましたが、その取り組みが実を結び、近年、GISが市場から一層高い評価を受けていることを大変嬉しく思います。
こうした評価の背景には、GISが掲げる「国内外で活躍するグローバルリーダーを育成・輩出する」という使命があります。2024年度は、この理念のもと、外部との繋がりを大きく意識した年となりました。GISの取り組みや教育理念を、多くのステークホルダー、高校や産業界の皆様に知っていただく貴重な機会を提供できたことは、非常に意義深いものでした。このような外部との連携を深める活動は、2025年度においても引き続き推進してまいります。
学部内においては、産学連携組織であるGGLI、海外大学院進学をサポートするGSASが本格的に軌道に乗り、多くの学生に将来のキャリアに役立つ新たな可能性を提供できるようになりました。この成果もまた、GISの教育理念である「グローバル社会で活躍するリーダーの育成」を体現する大きな一歩であり、今後さらに力を注いでいく所存です。
大学においては、今年度から本学部教授であるDiana Khor教授が大学の総長に就任されます。これは、GISにとっても大学全体にとっても大きな転機であり、今後のさらなる発展が期待されます。
最後になりますが、現役の学生の皆さん、そしてGISを志す受験生の皆さんへ、私からお伝えしたいことがあります。蛇年が象徴するように、困難を知恵と努力で乗り越え、大きな変化の中でも自分の可能性を信じて進んでください。GISは、皆さんの挑戦を全力でサポートします。今年一年が皆さんにとって実り多い年となりますよう、心よりお祈り申し上げます。

It is with great joy that I extend my warmest wishes to you all as we welcome the New Year.
As we enter 2025, the Year of the Snake, it is my privilege to greet you on this auspicious occasion. The snake, throughout history, has been revered as a symbol of wisdom, transformation, and renewal. Inspired by these qualities, our faculty will continue to refine its knowledge, embrace change fearlessly, and strive for even greater progress and success.
This year marks the 18th anniversary of GIS. For me personally, it is my third year as Dean. Since assuming this role, I have worked tirelessly to lead reforms aligned with the changing times. It is with great pride that I observe the growing recognition GIS has received in recent years, a testament to the success of our efforts.
At the heart of this recognition lies GIS’s mission to cultivate and produce global leaders who excel both within Japan and on the international stage. The past year, 2024, was one in which we placed a strong emphasis on deepening our connections with external stakeholders. Through our initiatives, we provided valuable opportunities to share the ideals and practices of GIS with high schools, industry partners, and other key collaborators. These efforts have proven immensely meaningful, and I am committed to continuing and expanding them in 2025.
Within the faculty, significant progress has been made in initiatives such as GGLI, which fosters industry-academia collaboration, and GASA, which aids students pursuing advanced degrees abroad. These programs are now well-established and are opening up new horizons for our students, equipping them with skills and opportunities to succeed in their future careers. Such achievements underscore GIS’s core mission of nurturing leaders who can thrive in a global society, and we are determined to build on these successes in the years ahead.
At the university level, a noteworthy development this year is the appointment of Professor Diana Khor, a member of our GIS faculty, as the university’s president. This new leadership marks a pivotal moment for GIS and the university as a whole, promising even greater advancements in the future.
In closing, I would like to address our current students and those aspiring to join GIS. Just as the Year of the Snake symbolizes overcoming challenges with wisdom and perseverance, I encourage you to face difficulties with courage and to believe in your potential, even amidst significant changes. GIS is here to support you wholeheartedly in your endeavors. May this year bring growth, fulfillment, and success to each and every one of you.
