【学部ニュース】コー＆金子ゼミが埼玉県秩父にて夏合宿を開催／The Intersectionality Seminar led by Prof. Khor and Dr. Kaneko had its summer camp in Chichibu, Saitama.

コー先生と金子先生率いるインターセクショナリティゼミでは、7月25日から26日にかけてコロナ禍以降初となる合宿を埼玉県秩父市で開催しました。8名の学生が参加し、日常とは異なる環境で研究や大学生活、将来について語り合う有意義な機会となりました。今年度から大学総長に就任されたコー先生に代わり、GIS卒業生の金子先生がゼミを担当しているため、今回の合宿は特に3年生とコー先生が交流できる時間にもなりました。

1日目は個人面談が行われ、学生たちにゼミでの経験や研究の進歩状況、学校生活について自由に語ってもらいました。夜にはバーベキューと花火を行い、夏らしい時間を楽しみました。2日目の朝はラジオ体操を行い、その後ロビン・ディアンジェロ著『ホワイト・フラジリティ』を一緒に読み、また、日本における排外主義やナショナリズムの影響、"日本人ファースト"政策やジェンダーに焦点を当てた反LGBTを掲げる右翼・保守政党の台頭についてもディスカッションを行いました。ダイバーシティとは、単に違いを認め合うだけでなく、様々な背景を持つ人々が公平かつ平和に暮らせるよう、社会の仕組みを変える必要がある政治的な概念であることを再確認しました。

今回の合宿を通して、3年生と4年生が親睦を深め、学生と教員の距離もより近づいたことで、今後のゼミも一層活発で実りあるものになることを期待しています。

The Intersectionality Seminar had its first summer camp in Chichibu, Saitama, from July 25^th to July 26^th. This was the first retreat that had been held since the 2019 Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic. Eight students participated, providing a valuable opportunity to discuss research, university life, and future plans in a relaxing environment off-campus. Since Professor Khor became the president of Hosei University in 2025, Dr. Kaneko, a GIS alumnus, is now in charge of the Intersectionality Seminar. This retreat also provided an opportunity for Professor Khor to interact with the third-year students.

On the first day, individual meetings were held, during which students were encouraged to speak freely about their seminar experiences, research progress, and school life. In the evening, participants enjoyed an outdoor barbecue and fireworks, creating a truly summery atmosphere. On the second day, after a morning session of radio calisthenics, participants read Robin DiAngelo’s White Fragility together. We also discussed the impact of xenophobia and nationalism in Japan, as well as the rise of right-wing and conservative parties promoting Japanese First policies and gender-focused, anti-LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) agendas. We reaffirmed that diversity is not simply about recognizing and accepting differences, but a political concept that calls for transforming society and social systems to ensure that people of diverse backgrounds can live together harmoniously in fairness and in peace.

The 2025 Intersectionality Seminar summer camp enabled the third- and fourth-year students to deepen their bonds and strengthen their friendships. The relationship between students and faculty also grew closer. We hope that future seminar events will be even more engaging and fruitful.
