松原愛莉さん（2024年3月卒業）
2024年3月にグローバル教養学部（GIS）を早期卒業を利用して卒業後、ロンドン・スクール・オブ・エコノミクス・アンド・ポリティカル・サイエンスへの大学院留学を実現し、充実した学生生活を送られている松原さんにお話を伺いました。
We sat down with an interview with Airi Matsubara, who graduated early from GIS in March 2024, and is now pursuing graduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she is enjoying a fulfilling student life.

GISに進学した理由を教えてください。/ Why did you choose to attend GIS?
松原さん：法政大学国際高等学校でIBDP（国際バカロレア・ディプロマ・プログラム）を取得する過程において、幅広い学問に興味を抱いたため、人文学系の分野を英語で学び、総合的な教養を身につけたいと考え、GISへの進学を決意しました。
Ms. Matsubara: I developed an interest in a wide range of academic disciplines while pursuing the IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) at Hosei University Kokusai High School, and I decided to attend GIS because I wanted to study the humanities in English while developing a well-rounded education.
GISでの学びが、自分にどのような影響を与えたと感じますか。/ How do you feel your time at GIS influenced you?
松原さん：入学当初は、大学の3年間を通して学問に励むことを決意し、インテンシブな学習活動を通して世界の理解を深めることを目標にしていました。一年次には、必修科目の三つの分野から均等に授業を履修し、幅広い教養を身につけ、二年次には、できる限り多様な他者と意見を交わす機会のある授業を受講し、グローバルな視座を養い、三年次には、自身の学問的関心を振り返り、専攻を定め、より深い学びに取り組むことができました。GISでの多様なバックグラウンドを持つ学生たちとの建設的な議論や教室を超えた交流を通して、物事を多角的・批判的に考え、それを伝達する力が身についたと感じています。
Ms. Matsubara: When I first entered Hosei University, I was determined to devote myself to my studies during the three years that I had, with the goal of deepening my understanding of the world through intense academic activity. In my first year, I evenly distributed my courses across the three required subjects to acquire a broad liberal arts education. In my second year, I took classes optimized for opportunity to exchange views with people from diverse backgrounds and cultivated a global perspective. In my third year, I took time to reflect on my academic interests, choose a major, and engage in deeper study. Through constructive discussions with students from diverse backgrounds at GIS in and out of the classroom, I feel I developed the keen ability to think about issues critically from various perspectives and to communicate those thoughts effectively.
GIS事務室：GISには海外在住経験のある学生が多い反面、そうした経験が全くない学生もおり、多種多様なバックグラウンドを持つ学生が集まっています。
GIS Ofiice: While many of the students in GIS have lived abroad, there are many who have no such experience, creating a community of students with a variety of backgrounds.
GIS在学中に英語力はどの程度伸びましたか。またその理由もあわせて教えてください。/ While you were studying at GIS, did your English improve? How much? Why?
松原さん：エッセイやディスカッションを繰り返すうちに、意見や主張を文脈に合わせて自分の言葉で伝える力が身についたと感じています。その結果、IELTSのスコアを7.0から8.5まで向上させることができました。
Ms. Matsubara: I feel I developed the ability to express my opinions and arguments in my own words, through constant discussions and repeated essay writing, with attention paid to the context. As a result, my IELTS score improved from a 7.0 to an 8.5.
GIS事務室：GISは英語を学ぶ学部ではありませんが、とはいえ、GISのクラスは少人数でディスカッションが多く取り入れられているため、英語を使って発言する力が磨かれる機会が多いですね。
GIS Office: While GIS is not a department dedicated to teaching English, with small classes that incorporate a lot of discussion, there are plenty of opportunities to hone your English-speaking ability.
海外大学院に進学しようと決めたきっかけ・理由を教えてください。/ What made you decide to pursue higher education abroad?
松原さん：高校で学ぶことの楽しさに気がつき、GISでは好奇心に基づいて学びを深め、学びと発見に溢れる楽しい大学生活を送っていましたが、海外の大学院で学ぶということは、自分には手の届かないことのように思い、正直、入学当初は全く考えていませんでした。しかし、在学中にGISの教授（新谷教授とケズナジャット教授）にいただいたお言葉がきっかけとなり、「自分にもできるかもしれない」と思えるようになり、海外大学院に進学することを決意しました。
また、大学での授業を通して海外（特にヨーロッパの）大学院からの交換留学生と交流を深めるうちに、将来的な選択肢を増やすためにも良い選択なのではないかと思い、総合的に考えた結果、修士号を取得することが今の自分にとって一番良い進路であると判断しました。
Ms. Matsubara: I discovered the joy of learning in high school, and at GIS, I enjoyed a university life filled with learning and discovery, deepened by curiosity. However, going to a graduate school still seemed out of reach to me, and to be honest, I hadn’t considered it at all when I entered GIS. But it was words of encouragement from the GIS professors, especially Professors Niiya and Khezrnejat, that made me think “Maybe I can do this too.” Additionally, interacting with exchange students in my classes from graduate schools abroad, especially in Europe, I began to think that a master’s degree might be a good choice to expand my future options. It took careful consideration, but I concluded that earning a master’s degree was the best path for me at this stage of my life.
GIS事務室：GISの教員は海外の大学院修了者や海外勤務経験者が多数を占めており、新谷先生とケズナジャット先生のように経験が豊富な教員からの教えやサポートによって海外大学院を目指すようになる学生もいますね。
GIS Office: Many of our faculty members in GIS are either graduates of overseas universities or have experience working abroad. It’s because of these experiences, their guidance, and the support provided by experienced educators like Professors Niiya and Kherznejat that we have students inspired to study abroad.
進学準備にあたって、GISからのサポートで印象に残っていることはありますか。/ When you were preparing for graduate school, was there support from GIS that really stood out to you?
松原さん：GISの教授やアカデミックスタッフの方に、志望理由書の添削などをしていただき、自分が納得いくまで向き合っていただいたことが大変印象に残っています。出願先の大学からの要望にも柔軟に対応してくださり、総合的にご支援いただきましたおかげで、問題なく出願プロセスを完了することができました。
Ms. Matsubara: I was especially impressed by the work that the professors and academic staff at GIS did with me on my personal statement. We revised it again and again until I was completely satisfied. They were also really adaptive to the specific requirements for each of the universities I was applying for. Thanks to their comprehensive support, I was able to complete the application process with no issues.
GIS事務室：GISでは「GSAS（海外大学院進学サポート）」を行っており、特に海外大学院に精通した教授陣を中心にワークショップの実施や個別相談も受け付けています。松原さんのように、トップクラスの大学院に進学する学生もいます。
GIS Office: We offer the GSAS (Graduate School Application Support) program here at GIS, which offers workshops and one-on-one consultations led primarily by professors with extensive expertise in overseas graduate programs. Just like Ms. Matsubara, we have some students who go on to attend top-tier graduate schools overseas.
現地での生活はどうですか（文化や日常生活、苦労したことなども含めて）。/ What is your life like, now? Are there any challenges you’ve faced, cultural differences, or moments from daily life you’d like to share?
松原さん：初めての海外での学生生活と一人暮らしということもあり、最初は今までと全く違う場所での生活に慣れることに苦労しました。周りの方々のサポートのおかげで、できなかったことが少しずつできるようになり、今は毎日楽しく学生生活を送らせていただいております。
Ms. Matsubara: This was my first time studying abroad and living on my own, and I initially struggled to adjust to life in a place completely different from what I was used to. It’s because of the support of the people around me that I’ve gradually been able to do things I couldn’t before and now I’m enjoying my everyday life as a student.
現在、大学院でどのようなことを学んでいますか（研究内容や授業など）。/ What are you studying in graduate school? What kind of research do you do, or what are you studying in your classes?
松原さん：現在は、組織行動論（具体的には、組織のパフォーマンスを最大化するためのピープルマネジメント）について、理論と実践両方の側面から学びを深めています。
Ms. Matsubara: I’m currently researching organizational behavior, specifically, people management aimed at maximizing organizational performance from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
「こういう人にはGISがおすすめ」と思うポイントがあれば教えてください。/ What kind of people do you think would benefit from GIS?
松原さん：GISでは、人文学系の学問を総合的に英語で学び、全ての授業が少人数制であるため、ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションなど、アウトプットが求められることが多くあったと思います。そのため、「英語での学びに挑戦してみたい」「総合的に考え、学び、世界の理解を深めたい」という思いがある方におすすめできると思います。
Ms. Matsubara: At GIS, students get a comprehensive humanities education in English, and since the classes are small, there are a lot of opportunities for practice-based activities such as discussions and presentations. Because of that, I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to take on the challenge of learning English or wants to “think and learn holistically to better understand the world.”
GISに関心を持っている高校生に向けて、メッセージをお願いします。/ Do you have any messages for high school students that might be interested in GIS?
松原さん：GISのような恵まれた環境の中で、皆で学び支え合えたことは、私にとって何事にも代え難い、とても贅沢な時間でした。常に学びや成長の機会を与えてくれ、毎日が新しい発見の連続でした。受験という大きな挑戦の中で、不安や迷いもあるかと思いますが、自分の可能性を信じて、皆さんが自分らしく歩める道を見つけられますよう、心より応援しております。
Ms. Matsubara: Being able to learn and support my fellow students in an environment like GIS was a privilege and an irreplaceable experience for me. It was truly enriching. It constantly provided opportunities for learning and growth, and every day was filled with new discoveries. I know you might be anxious or uncertain, facing the major challenge of college entrance exams, but I sincerely hope you will believe in yourself and your own potential, and find a path that allows you to be true to yourself.
