【学部ニュース】アクセンチュアで築く未来！グローバルなITの最前線で働く（A.K.さん）

A.K.さん（2021年9月卒業）

グローバル教養学部（GIS）を2021年9月に卒業後、アクセンチュア株式会社に就職した卒業生に学生時代の取り組みや現在の仕事について伺いました。

We had the chance to speak with A.K., a former GIS student who graduated in September of 2021, about their time as a student, and the work they’re doing currently.

　ーGISを目指す高校生にメッセージをお願いします。

学生時代は、学生が持っている特権を意識して過ごすようにしていました。例えば大学生の間は、教授や専門家、企業の方など質問や協力依頼をしても快く回答をいただくことができました。疑問に思うことは質問をして、惜しみなく調べ学ぶことを意識していました。そうすると自然と自分の目標が定まっていき、結果としてその過程で得た知識や新たな仲間が学生時代に得た一番大切なものだと感じています。

During my student days, I made a concerted effort to really take advantage of the resources available to students. While I was in college, for example, I was able to receive a lot of support whenever I asked questions or asked for help from professors. I made it a priority to ask questions whenever I wasn’t completely sure and learn as much as possible. Because of this, my goals came into focus, and I feel like the knowledge that I gained, the new friends I made during that process were the most valuable things I gained while I was a student.

外資系コンサルティング業界を選んだのは、社会が抱える様々な課題解決に興味があったことと、多様な業界と関わることができる環境でキャリアを築きたいと思ったためです。アクセンチュア株式会社では、第四次産業革命と呼ばれるデジタル技術の時代に、ITやデジタルトランスフォーメーションを活用した課題解決を行っており、業界リーダの企業様をお客様にお仕事ができることを魅力に感じて志望しました。

I chose the consulting industry with a focus on international affiliation because I was interested in tackling the different challenges within society. I wanted to build my career in an environment where I could engage with a wide range of industries, too. At Accenture, I was drawn to the chance to work with industry-leading companies as they tackle challenges in IT and digital technology, which we often call the fourth Industrial Revolution.
 

現在はシステム開発エンジニアの仕事をしています。エンジニアと一言で言ってもプログラミングを書くような作業だけではなく、お客様と話し合ってどのようなシステムにするか、どのような機能を開発するかなどを会話し検討・開発を行っています。これまで従事させていただいたプロジェクトはインフラ業界から官公庁系のお客様と幅広く、プロジェクトが変わるごとに新しい業界知識・システム知識をつけられる楽しみがあります。また、開発チームは多国籍で構成されていることもあり、海外拠点のチームと英語でやりとりをしながら開発・テストをすることもあります。まだ実績のないシステムの構築や大規模改修など難しいこともありますが、新しいことへの挑戦ができる仕事だと思っています。

I’m working right now as a systems development engineer, and I know that the term engineer might imply I’m solely writing code, but there’s a lot more that goes into it. I collaborate with clients to discuss the systems design, determine the features they want developed, and then work on their implementation. I’ve been on projects that run the spectrum, from infrastructure to government agencies, and I enjoy gaining new industry and system knowledge with each project. Additionally, since our development team is multinational, I’m often communicating in English with teams at overseas offices while we’re doing development and testing. While there are hurdles like building systems from scratch or having to undertake complete, large scale system overhauls, this job is one that allows me to really take on new challenges.

GISでは、「コミュニケーション能力」と「リーダーシップとチームワーク」のスキルを学ぶことができたと思います。まず１つ目「コミュニケーション能力」では、自分の仮説や意見を持って考え、伝える力をつけることができました。英語での生活で培ったトークストレート（思ったことを正直に話す）文化は、日々の業務の中での意見交換やロジックを立ててお客様に説明する際、その内容を相手にとって分かりやすい伝え方で伝えることに生きていると感じます。２つ目の「リーダーシップとチームワーク」のスキルは、GISの授業を通して様々なグループワークを行ったことで培うことができました。バックグラウンドに違いがある人達で構成されるチームのそれぞれの良さを活かせるように協力するスキルを学ぶことができたと感じています。

I really think GIS helped to improve my communication, leadership, and teamwork skills especially. Communication helped me form and articulate my own hypotheses and opinions, There’s a culture of speaking honestly with others, and it’s one I cultivated in my daily life, being part of an English environment. It’s proven invaluable to my work, regardless of where I’m just talking to a teammate, or explaining higher logic to clients in a way that it easy for them to comprehend. I developed leadership and teamwork through group projects during my GIS classes. I really feel I learned how to effectively collaborate and leverage eager member’s individual strengths, especially when coming from a team of people with diverse backgrounds.

現在は地方・地域の活性化に興味があり、将来はスマートシティ開発や農業の自動化など、社会問題を解決しながら生活を豊かにすることを仕事に出来たらと考えています。

Currently, I’m interested in revitalizing local, rural communities. In the future, I hope to work in fields like smart city development and agricultural automation. Areas where I can enrich lives, while also addressing social issues.

やる気のある学生が多く、ディスカッションやグループワークに真摯に取り組む仲間と出会えるところです。とてもフランクで話しやすい教授の方々と、様々なバックグラウンドから集まる学生たちと切磋琢磨する生活を送ることが出来たのが一番の思い出です。

There are so many motivated students in the department, and it’s a place to meet peers who take discussions and group work seriously. My fondest memory of GIS is the time I spent learning and growing with progressors who were very approachable and easy to talk to, and alongside students from a variety of backgrounds.

GIS進学を目指している高校生の皆さんへ
私は学生の頃、大学生活は目標を持って挑めば自分自信の将来の可能性を広げる絶好の機会になると考えていました。今振り返ってみると、間違っていなかったと感じています。
GISでは日本にいながら英語環境で学ぶことができ、「英語を学ぶ」こととは異なる、「英語をツールとする」生活を送ることが出来ます。英語をツールとすることで、これまでよりもたくさんの人々と出会い、意見と出会い、学ぶことができる機会となると思います。進路を決める際は、悩んだり困ったりすることもあると思いますが、自分には自分の良さがあると信じて自分の将来の可能性をぜひ広げていってほしいです。
皆さんの未来が輝かしいものでありますように、心から応援しています。

To any high school students that are considering GIS,
When I was a student, I believed that if I approached university with clear goals, it would be a golden opportunity to expand my future possibilities. And looking back on it now, I was right. At GIS, you can study in an English environment while staying in Japan, allowing you to live a life where you use English as a “tool” rather than just “learning” it. And by using that tool, I believe you’ll have the chance to meet more people, encounter new perspectives, and learn more than ever before. I know you might feel anxious or uncertain, trying to decide your path forward, but I hope you’ll believe in your own abilities, and strive to expand your future. I sincerely hope it will be a bright one, and I’m rooting for you all.
