【学部ニュース】福岡ゼミ 河津合宿 ― Study hard, play hard.／Fukuoka Seminar Retreat 2026: Study Hard, Play Hard

福岡ゼミのモットーは、“Study hard, play hard.”しっかり学び、しっかり遊ぶ。今回の合宿も、まさにその言葉を体現する3日間となりました。

初日の夜は、4年生による卒業論文の進捗発表会です。各自が経営学を基盤に、自身の関心から設定した研究テーマについて、その背景や社会的意義、関連する先行研究から導き出した学術的意義、そしてRQ（リサーチクエスチョン）を発表しました。発表後には、福岡教授や他の4年生から鋭い質問や意見が次々と寄せられます。卒業論文は、自分一人で書き上げるものではありますが、議論を通して研究を磨き上げていくことも重要です。4年生は、9月末から10月にかけて質問票調査やインタビューなどを通じてデータを収集し、定量的・定性的な分析を進めます。その後は、12月のドラフト提出に向けて一気に書き上げていきます。いよいよ卒業論文も佳境に入ります。続いて3年生も、現時点で関心を持っている研究テーマを発表しました。それぞれの個性が表れたユニークなテーマが多く、これからどのように研究として形になっていくのか、来年度の発表が今から楽しみです。すべての発表とディスカッションが終わったのは、なんと深夜1時45分。長時間にわたる発表会となりましたが、全員最後まで集中して取り組みました。まさに“Study hard”の一日でした。

そして2日目は、“Play hard”です。少し遅めに起床した後、河津七滝を巡り、自然の中でリフレッシュ。その後は三島へ移動し、5チームに分かれてボウリング大会を行いました。チーム対抗ということもあり、会場は大いに盛り上がりました。優勝チーム、おめでとう！夜はBBQを囲みながら、さらに交流を深めました。その後は、秋学期に行うビジネスコンテストに向けたチーム編成も実施。遊ぶだけで終わらないのも福岡ゼミです。次の活動に向けた準備もしっかり進めました。

最終日の3日目は、全員で昼食をとった後、解散となりました。
普段の授業だけでは、なかなか縮まらない距離があります。一緒に学び、遊び、食事をし、同じ時間を過ごすことで、学生同士の心理的な距離は一気に近くなります。今回の合宿を通じて、3年生と4年生の交流も深まり、ゼミ全体としての一体感もより強くなりました。

秋学期は、4年生の卒業論文、そしてゼミ生全員で挑むビジネスコンテストと、それぞれの挑戦が続きます。Study hard, play hard. 今回の合宿で深まったつながりを力に、秋学期も福岡ゼミが一つのチームとして、互いに刺激し、支え合いながら、それぞれの目標に向かって取り組んでくれることを期待しています。

The motto of the Fukuoka Seminar is “Study hard, play hard.” Work hard, enjoy yourself fully, and make the most of both. Our three-day seminar retreat was a perfect reflection of this spirit.

The first evening was devoted to progress presentations by the fourth-year students on their graduation theses. Drawing on business and management studies, each student presented a research topic based in their own interests, explaining its background and social relevance, the academic significance identified through a review of related literature, and the research question they had developed. Following each presentation, Professor Fukuoka and the other fourth-year students offered a series of insightful questions and comments. Although a graduation thesis is ultimately an individual piece of work, discussion with others is an important part of refining and strengthening one’s research. From late September through October, the fourth-year students will collect data through questionnaires, interviews, and other methods, followed by quantitative and qualitative analysis. They will then move into the final stage of writing, working toward the submission of their thesis drafts in December. Their graduation research is now entering its most intensive phase. The third-year students then presented the research topics they are currently interested in exploring. Their ideas were diverse and distinctive, and we are already looking forward to seeing how these interests develop into full-fledged research projects next year. By the time all the presentations and discussions had finished, it was 1:45 a.m. Despite the long session, everyone remained focused until the very end. It was truly a day of “Study hard.”

Day two was all about “Play hard.” After a slightly late start, we visited the Kawazu Seven Waterfalls and enjoyed some time in nature. We then travelled to Mishima, where the students divided into five teams for a bowling tournament. The team competition brought plenty of excitement and energy. Congratulations to the winning team! In the evening, everyone gathered for a BBQ and had more time to relax and get to know one another. We also formed teams for the business competition to be held during the fall semester. Even on a day dedicated to having fun, the Fukuoka Seminar does not completely switch off from its next challenge. Preparations for the semester ahead were already underway.

On the third and final day, we had lunch together before heading home. There are some distances between people that are difficult to close through regular classes alone. Studying, having fun, sharing meals, and simply spending time together can quickly bring people closer. Through this retreat, the third- and fourth-year students got to know one another better, and the sense of unity across the seminar grew stronger.

The fall semester will bring new challenges: the fourth-year students will continue working toward the completion of their graduation theses, while all seminar members will take part in the business competition. Study hard, play hard. With the stronger bonds built during this retreat, we hope that the Fukuoka Seminar will continue to move forward as one team—challenging and supporting one another as each student works toward their own goals.
