【学部ニュース】Self and Culture Seminar白浜夏合宿／Self and Culture Seminar: Summer Retreat in Shirahama, Minamiboso

今年の夏合宿は一泊二日で南房総の白浜に行ってきました。４年生は夏に集めたデータの結果を発表、３年生はこれから行う実験計画について発表しました。美しい海を前に、夕焼けを見ないのはもったいない！ということで、夕方に発表を一旦中断し、全員で房総半島最南端の公園に行き、潮風に吹かれながら夕空を眺めました。夕食はバイキングで海の幸からチョコレートファウンテンまで制覇し、しっかりと胃袋を満たしました。夜は恒例のゲーム大会。itoで大盛り上がりしました。多様なバックグラウンドをもつゼミ生。価値観も世界観も多様で、互いの心理を読み取ろうと必死だったのにも関わらず、中々うまくいきません。このゼミが雪山で遭難したら、誰も生還できないだろうことは、よくわかりました（夏合宿でよかった）。翌朝はホテルの方のご厚意で、バスの時間ギリギリまで研究発表をさせていただきました。ギリギリすぎてバス停まで走ることになりましたが、白浜からは全員無事に帰還できました。

　This year’s seminar retreat took us to Shirahama in Minamiboso. The fourth-year students presented the results of the data they had collected over the summer, while the third-year students presented their plans for the experiments they will be conducting in the coming months. With such a beautiful ocean right in front of us, there was no way we could miss the sunset! One hour into the presentations, we took a break and headed to a park at the southernmost tip of the Boso Peninsula to enjoy the sea breeze and watch the sky turn golden.
　For dinner, we enjoyed the buffet, conquering everything from fresh seafood to a chocolate fountain and making sure our stomachs were thoroughly full.
　The evening featured our traditional game tournament. We had a blast playing ito. Our seminar members come from diverse backgrounds. With such diverse values and worldviews, reading each other’s minds was nearly impossible! One thing became crystal clear: our seminar would be hopeless if we ever got stranded in a snowy mountain. Now we know why we have our camp in summer.
　The next morning, thanks to the kindness of the hotel staff, we continued our research presentations until the very last minute before our bus left. We cut it very close and ended up sprinting to the bus stop—but thankfully, everyone made it home safely.
