【学部ニュース】インターセクショナリティゼミが山梨県にて夏合宿を開催／Intersectionality Seminar held a summer camp in Yamanashi Prefecture

インターセクショナリティゼミは、9月13日から14日にかけて、石和温泉で知られる山梨県笛吹市で夏合宿を開催しました。9月に入り雨が続いていましたが、幸いにも天候に恵まれ、晴天の二日間を過ごすことができました。スケジュールの都合で4名の学生のみの参加となりましたが、大自然に囲まれた環境で、研究や大学生活、卒業後の進路について話し合う有意義な機会となりました。今年は、本ゼミを運営・指導を担当しているコー先生と金子先生に加え、来年度からGISで社会学ゼミを担当する平森先生も参加しました。

1日目は個人面談を行い、学生たちには、ゼミでの経験や研究の進捗状況、夏休みの出来事、普段の学校生活などについて語ってもらいました。今回は一人ひとりの学生とゆっくり話すことができ、充実した時間となりました。 夕食後は、花火を楽しみ、映画鑑賞会を行いました。ジェンダーやセクシュアリティに関心を持つ学生が多いことから、トランスジェンダー当事者であり、ものまね芸人としても活躍するはるな愛さんの半生を描いた「This is I」を鑑賞しました。 

2日目は朝食後に、瞑想とエアロビクスを行いました。その後、社会学者の森山至貴先生が執筆したオンライン記事を題材に、「女子のフェミニズム嫌い」や「男性がフェミニズムを教えること」について議論しました。さらに、フェミニズムやクィア理論を専門とする清水晶子先生の論文をもとに、2000年代の日本における保守政治家や団体によるフェミニズムへのバックラッシュと、それに対するフェミニストの対応についても議論しました。後半の議論では、「若い世代ではLGBTQへの関心が高い一方で、フェミニズムにはあまり関心が持たれていないのはなぜなのか」という疑問について考えました。1時間半ほど議論を交わした後は、山梨県の郷土料理である「ほうとう」を昼食にいただき、その後、都内へ戻りました。

今回の合宿を通して、3年生と4年生が親睦を深め、学生と教員の距離もより近づいたことで、今後のゼミも一層活発で実りあるものになることを期待しています。そして、今回の夏合宿を計画・実行してくれた４年生のゼミコーディネーターの二人にはとても感謝しております。
 

The Intersectionality Seminar held its summer camp from September 13 to 14 in Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, famous for its Isawa Onsen. Although it had been raining continuously since the beginning of September, we were fortunate to have good weather throughout the camp. Due to scheduling constraints, only four students were able to participate, but the camp provided a valuable opportunity for students to discuss their research, university life, and plans after graduation with the instructors in a relaxed setting. This year, in addition to Dr. Khor and Dr. Kaneko, who currently oversee and teach the seminar, Dr. Hiramori, who will take over the sociology seminar at GIS next year, also joined the camp.
Day 1: Individual meetings were held with each student, who shared their experiences in the seminar, progress on their research, what they had been doing during the summer break, and their university life. After dinner, we enjoyed fireworks and held a movie night. As many of the students in the seminar have a strong interest in gender and sexuality issues, “This is I” was chosen for the movie night. The film depicts the life of Ai Haruna, a transgender woman and impersonator in Japan. 
Day 2: After breakfast, we began the day with some meditation and aerobics. We read an online article written by sociologist Dr. Moriyama, and discussed why some young women dislike feminism and the role of men in teaching feminism. We also read an article written by feminist and queer theorist Dr. Shimizu and discussed the backlash against feminism from conservative politicians and organizations in Japan in the 2000s, as well as feminist response to it. The discussion of Shimizu’s paper also explored a question that had come up among the students: Why do many young people in Japan seem to have a strong interest in LGBTQ issues while showing relatively little interest in feminism? After an hour and a half of discussion, we went out to eat hōtō for lunch, a traditional local dish of Yamanashi Prefecture. We then returned to Tokyo.
Through the camp, the junior and senior year students had a chance to get to know each other better, and the students and instructors also became closer. We hope that this experience will lead to even more active and fruitful seminar activities in the future. We are also very grateful to the two senior students who planned and organized this amazing summer camp.
