2026年4月に総合型選抜 自己推薦入試 S基準で入学を果たした学生にインタビューを行いました。限られた出願書類の中で、GISへの熱意をどのように表現し、合格することができたのか。また、現在GIS学部の学生としてどのような学びや経験を積んでいるのか、語ってもらいました。受験生へのアドバイスも紹介しています。

高校において、英語以外で熱心に取り組んだ科目・教科についてその理由、またGISでの学びに繋がっていることを教えてください。
英語以外で熱心に取り組んだのは世界史や地理などの社会科目です。特に苦手な科目だったので、成績で足を引っ張ることがないよう、先生に勉強方法を質問しに行ったり、放課後に黒板に書いて暗記をしたりしていました。授業に積極的に参加することで、苦手意識があって避けていた社会科目に自ずと興味を持って取り組むことができました。この経験から、GISでも苦手分野を履修する際、その科目のおもしろさを追求することができています。
I especially endeavored social studies subjects such as World History and Geography. As they were subjects I particularly struggled with, I made an effort to ensure it does not drag down my overall grades. Specifically, I went to ask my teachers methods to study, I spoke up in class, and I stayed after school, writing on the blackboard to memorize key things I should remember. By actively participating and engaging in class, I naturally started to have interest towards social studies, which I used to abstain from since I was aware I performed poorly on the subject. This experience has contributed to school life now as well, because I seek interesting points about my weak subjects instead of avoiding them.
GISへの志望理由を教えてください。
オールイングリッシュで講義を受け、グローバルな背景を持つ仲間たちと交流を深めることで英語力を向上させ、視野を広げたいと思ったことが主な理由です。また、私には留学経験がなく、大学在学中に留学をしたいと考えていますが、GISでは留学支援制度が充実していてここなら安心して留学できると感じた点も魅力です。最後に、少人数クラスで学ぶことができることも決め手の一つでした。授業に能動的に参加し、よりその分野の面白さを体感できるからです。
The main reason I chose to apply for GIS is that I can improve my English proficiency and widen my perspective through taking lectures all in English and interacting with peers who possess global backgrounds. Additionally, since I do not have an experience of studying abroad, I hope to do so during my university periods; GIS was ideal for that because it had adequate supporting systems for the programs. Finally, the capacity for students in a lecture is small compared to other faculties, and this is also attractive because I can actively participate in class, which is an opportunity for me to seek interest in that field.
なぜ自己推薦入試S基準への出願を決めたのでしょうか。
当時通っていた塾の先生に勧めていただき、そこからGISを知りました。高校受験でも一般受験の経験がないことや、一般受験科目に不安があったことから、総合型選抜入試を受験することを決めました。そこから英語外部試験のスコア向上に向けて勉強しました。その中で、GISに受かる可能性を少しでも上げるため、S基準でも受けることを決意しました。
I discovered GIS when my cram school teacher recommended that I apply for it. At that time, I did not have experience taking entrance exams at high school and had anxiety about the required subjects in it, thus I honestly wanted to decide my university by comprehensive selection. That is the trigger for me to study for the English proficiency test. In order to increase the chance to pass GIS, I figured it would be better if I took the S standard as well.
合格の秘訣とアドバイスをお願いします。
S基準は判断材料が少ない分、一つ一つに力を入れる必要があります。個人的には志望理由書の充実度が特に重要視されているのかなと感じました。十分と思った書類も、自分の背景を知らない人が読むと不十分かもしれません。第三者、できればGISの傾向を理解している人に読んでもらい、フィードバックをもらうことを推奨します。私は塾の先生からの指摘がなくなるまで書き直しました。手当たり次第に聞くと逆に雑然としてしまう可能性があるので、人数は絞りましょう。
Since S standards have less assessment material, you need to put effort into each one you are going to submit. Personally, I felt that the application form especially takes value. Even if you felt the document was adequate, it might not be the case for those who do not know your background. It is recommended for a third person, ideally a person who knows the expectations of GIS, to look through your writing and give feedback. For me, I revised my application form again and again until my cram school teacher wassatisfied with it. The content would be cluttered if you randomly ask a bunch of people, so make sure you limit the number of people to get advice.
Personal Statementを作成した際、気を付けたことはありますか。
上記で述べた点に加え、全体を通して抽象的にならないよう気をつけました。特に志望理由のところでは、リベラルアーツを通して様々なことを学びたい、ではなく具体的にどの科目を履修してみたいか、実際の科目名を挙げました。その上で、なぜそれを履修したいのか、どのように自分が目指す将来につながるのかを明確にしました。
Other than the point mentioned above, I tried to make the statement specific. Especially in the section where I needed to identify the reasons I wish to study in GIS, not merely writing about the desire to study various things through liberal arts program but instead nameing actual subjects I would like to take if I passed the application. Based on that, I specified why I want to take that course and how it relates to my future career.

GISに入学してよかったことを教えてください。
全講義が英語で実施されることが楽しくて入学してよかったと思いました。高校でも英語教育に力を入れているとはいえ、英語を使う場面は英語の授業のみでした。英語をもっと使いたい私にとって、オールイングリッシュというだけでモチベーションが上がります。また、自分のレベルに合った教育が受けられているのもよかった点です。GISの授業は追いつけないということがありませんが、自分より英語力や学力が高い学生がたくさんいて刺激になり、向上心を保つことができています。
All-English curriculum is the point I find really fun and am fond of. Although my high school had advanced English education, English class was the only occasion when I interactively used English. As a person who wants to actively use English, GIS being all-English raised my motivation. Also, the capability of receiving education that matches my level is the point I like about GIS. While I do not struggle with catching up with classes, there are many students who go above my level in terms of English proficiency and academic ability. This stimulates me and enhances my ambition.

受験生の間は辛い、早く抜け出したいという気持ちでいっぱいだと思いますし、その気持ちはすごくよくわかりますが、将来を左右できるのは今だけです！S基準を目指している方は先生方から厳しいフィードバックをいただきながら成長し、GISで一緒に楽しい学生生活を送りましょう！
I really understand that examinees will have a hard time and you may want to get away from the upcoming exam, but this is your only time when you can shape your campus life future!
