Good morning, everyone.
Thank you very much for taking the time to join us today, despite your busy schedules and the unfavorable weather conditions. At one point, there was some concern that this event might be affected by the typhoon, but we are truly pleased to be able to welcome you here safely today. On behalf of the Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you for coming under these circumstances.
This is the fourth GIS Open Day since we adopted the current format in the 2023 academic year. We are very grateful that interest in GIS has continued to grow year by year. This year, we set the maximum number of participants at 500, but registration reached capacity within a short period of time, and we had to close applications earlier than expected. While we sincerely regret that some people were unable to attend, we also feel deeply encouraged by the high expectations placed on GIS. At the same time, this reminds us of the responsibility we bear as a faculty.
University admissions in Japan are now undergoing a significant period of transition. Universities and faculties have introduced increasingly diverse admissions systems, and particularly in the case of comprehensive selection（総合型選抜）, it has become difficult to fully understand the selection process and required documents without carefully reading the admissions guidelines. In a sense, university admissions have increasingly become a matter of information and preparation.
At the same time, rapid advances in AI are transforming society itself. In Japan, there has long been a strong tendency to rank universities based on entrance exam scores or institutional name recognition. However, in the era ahead, what matters will not simply be which undergraduate program a student enters. What will matter more is what students learn, what abilities they develop, and what kind of value they are able to create for society.
In this sense, we believe that university education must be more than simply granting a bachelor’s degree. Universities today have a responsibility to enhance the quality of education and to cultivate students who can think independently, collaborate with others, and act responsibly in a global society. GIS is a faculty that embraces precisely this mission. Through liberal arts education conducted in English, we aim to nurture the next generation of global leaders.
Today’s Open Day consists of two parts. After these opening remarks, I will continue by introducing the educational features and distinctive strengths of GIS. Details regarding admissions will be explained by our administrative staff. This year, we have also made significant revisions to our general entrance examination system（一般選抜） in order to make it more accessible and more approachable for a wider range of applicants. I strongly encourage you to consider not only our comprehensive selection system（総合型選抜）, but also our general entrance examinations（一般選抜）.
Following the faculty introduction, we will hold interviews with our graduates and current students, which will conclude the first part of the program. After a short break, the second part will include individual consultation sessions, student-led activities, and mock lectures. In addition to GIS faculty members, around 20 GIS Ambassador students are also here today. I hope you will take this opportunity to speak directly with our faculty members and students, and to experience aspects of GIS that cannot be fully conveyed through brochures or websites: the atmosphere of the faculty, the breadth and depth of learning, and the growth of our students.
I sincerely hope that today’s encounter will give you a deeper understanding of GIS. And if, through today’s experience, you feel that this is a place where you would like to study and grow, I warmly encourage you to take on the challenge of applying to GIS. I very much look forward to seeing you apply, succeed, and return next April as students of our faculty.
It is my sincere hope that today’s experience will be meaningful for your future academic choices and for the learning journey that lies ahead.

本日はお忙しい中、そして足下が悪い中、本イベントにお越しいただき、誠にありがとうございます。一時は台風の影響で開催も危ぶまれましたが、こうして無事に皆さまをお迎えすることができました。何より、このような状況の中で足を運んでくださった皆さまに、学部を代表して、心より感謝申し上げます。
GISのオープンデーは、2023年度に現在の形式となって以来、今回で4回目を迎えます。ありがたいことに、年々多くの皆さまに関心をお寄せいただき、今年は500名を上限として募集いたしましたが、短期間で受付を締め切らざるを得ない状況となりました。ご参加いただけなかった皆さまには大変申し訳なく思うと同時に、GISへの期待の大きさを改めて感じ、私たち自身、身の引き締まる思いでおります。
現在、大学入試は大きな過渡期にあります。各大学・各学部で多様な入試形態が導入され、とりわけ総合型選抜においては、入試要項を丁寧に読み込まなければ、選考方法や提出書類を正確に理解することが難しくなっています。ある意味で、大学入試は「情報戦」の側面を強めていると言えるかもしれません。
同時に、AIの急速な進展により、社会のあり方そのものも大きく変わろうとしています。これまで日本では、偏差値や大学名によって大学を序列化する傾向が強くありました。しかし、これからの時代に問われるのは、どの大学の学士課程に入ったかだけではありません。何を学び、どのような力を身につけ、社会にどのような価値を生み出せる人間になるのかがより重要になります。
その意味で、私たちは、単に「学士」という資格を与えるだけの教育では不十分だと考えています。これからの大学には、教育の質を高め、学生一人ひとりが自ら考え、他者と協働し、世界の中で責任を持って行動できる力を育てる使命があります。GISは、まさにその使命を担う学部として、英語によるリベラルアーツ教育を通じて、次世代のグローバルリーダーを育成することを目指しています。
本日のオープンデーは、2部構成となっております。この後、引き続き私からGISの教育内容や特色についてご説明いたします。入試に関する詳細につきましては、事務よりご案内いたします。なお、今年度は一般選抜についても大きく制度を見直しました。より多くの受験生にとって挑戦しやすい入試となるよう改善しております。総合型選抜だけでなく、一般選抜にもぜひ積極的に挑戦していただきたいと思います。
その後、卒業生や在学生を招いたインタビューを行い、第1部を終了いたします。休憩をはさんだ第2部では、個別相談、学生企画、模擬授業を実施いたします。本日は、GISの教員に加え、約20名のGISアンバサダーの学生たちも参加しております。是非この機会に、教員や在学生と直接お話し頂き、パンフレットやウェブサイトだけでは伝わりきらないGISの雰囲気、学びの幅の広さと深さ、そして学生たちの成長を感じ取っていただければ幸いです。
本日ここでの出会いが、皆さまにとって、GISをより深く知る機会となることを願っております。そして、もし今日の体験を通じて、ここで学びたい、ここで成長したいと感じて頂けたなら、ぜひGISに挑戦してください。皆さまが出願され、合格され、来年4月に本学部の学生として再びお会いできることを、心より楽しみにしております。
