Assistant Professor Daiki Hiramori of the Department of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies has been awarded the 2026 MEXT Minister’s Award for Science and Technology (Science and Technology Award), during the 2026 fiscal year. (※Shared with one another participant)
The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology award is for the recognition of individuals who achieve outstanding results in research, development, and the promotion of understanding in the sciences and technologies.  For his research, Assistant Professor Hiramori focused on demographic-based research into sexual orientation and gender identity (also known as SOGI) and its lack of comprehensive statistics in Japan. This research yielded the development of not only survey questions, but the implementation of a nationwide randomized sample survey, which identified possible social disparities and differences in public perceptions surrounding sexual minorities. Additionally, this research is expected to contribute to the development of further statistical data on SOGI, and the practical impact, as well as their use of surveys in national and local governments and among researchers, has been highly regarded by the field. Hiramori’s key research included publishing papers in key journals related to the field of study, and contributing to academic books internationally, allowing his research to spread both domestically and abroad.  The award ceremony honoring Assistant Professor Hiramori was held on April 15th, 2026, at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology.
