【イベント報告】GSAS 第二回ワークショップ開催 / Second GSAS Workshop Held

The second GSAS workshop of the 2025 academic year was held on June 18. The theme was, “If you decide to go to graduate school, when and what should you prepare?” The lecture and discussion covered a wide range of topics, including how much time to spend preparing your personal statement, when to start looking for scholarships, and what to do first when asking for letters of recommendation. Professors Niiya and Suan, who led the workshop, answered the theme of when you should begin preparing for graduate school by saying that “The moment you become interested in graduate school is the time to start.” They also noted that applying to graduate school depends on what you learn in GIS and how you engage in research activities during your undergraduate career. The GIS students who participated listened attentively, asked many questions, and made the workshop a very meaningful one.

本年度第二回目のGSASワークショップを6月18日に開催しました。今回のテーマは、「大学院に行くことを決めたとして、ではいつ何を準備すればよいのか」でした。Personal Statementの準備にかかる時間、奨学金を探し始めるタイミング、推薦状をお願いするためにまず準備すべきことなど、アドバイスは多岐にわたりました。では具体的にいつ準備を始めればいいのか。ワークショップを担当した新谷教授とスアン教授の答えは、「大学院に興味をもった瞬間がはじめ時」というものでした。大学院への出願は、GISでどのような学びをするのか、学部時代に研究活動にどう取り組んでいくのかが鍵です。参加したGIS生たちは真剣に話を聞き、質問もたくさんしてくれ、とても有意義なワークショップになりました。
