新年あけましておめでとうございます。
2023年は、COVID-19の影響が徐々に薄れ、世界各地で復興の兆しを見せつつも、国際的な舞台では多くの出来事がありました。国同士の対立や摩擦が続き、世界各国が今もなお解決策を模索しています。また、AIやロボティクス分野では革新的な進歩が見られ、今後の生活に大きな影響を与えることは間違いありません。経済面では、デジタル通貨やブロックチェーン技術の普及が進み、また、円安や物価上昇に見舞われました。国内では、働き方や教育制度の改革、再生可能エネルギーへのシフトや地方創生など、持続可能な社会を築くための取り組みが積極的に行われました。
GISにとって2023年は大きな変革の年でした。私たちは自らをグローバルリーダー育成機関と再定義しました。そして、リベラルアーツ教育の一環として、全ての講義を英語で行い、多様性を尊重し、少人数の教育を提供し、アクティブな学びを実践することが、将来のグローバルリーダーを育てるために不可欠であることを再確認いたしました。さらに、学生のキャリア支援を充実させるため、産業界との連携を強化する目的で「産学連携組織（GGLI）」を立ち上げ、外資系企業や日系グローバル企業の管理職や起業家をフェローとして迎え入れました。また、グローバルリーダーとして必要な修士以上の学位取得を目指す「海外大学院進学サポートプログラム（GSAS）」を開始するとともに、入試改革やGISアンバサダー制度の導入など、様々な取り組みを行いました。これらの成功には、多くの皆様のご協力と努力がありました。改めて関係者の皆様に深く感謝申し上げます。
2024年辰年を迎えるにあたり、私たちは新たなステージに向けて更なる成長を目指します。辰年は力強さや成功の象徴です。現在の時代は不確実性が高くVUCAと呼ばれる時代ですが、私たちはそのような時代においても、力強く前進し多くの成功を収めたいと思っています。私たちの目標は、学部としての更なる発展と社会への貢献です。教育環境の更なる充実と、学生一人一人の才能と可能性を最大限に引き出し、将来のグローバルリーダーを育成・輩出することはもちろんのこと、学部内外のパートナーシップを強化し、異なる視点や知識を交換しながら、より多くのイノベーションを生み出したいと考えています。そして、私たちも研究者として持続可能な未来を築くために研究を推進してまいります。
新しい年が、皆様にとって希望に満ち、充実した一年となりますように。改めて、本年もよろしくお願い申し上げます。

Happy New Year!
In 2023, while the impact of COVID-19 gradually diminished and signs of recovery were visible worldwide, there were many events on the international stage. There continued to be conflicts and frictions between nations, and countries around the world are still searching for solutions. Innovative progress was observed in fields like AI and robotics, undoubtedly influencing our future lives. Economically, there was a noticeable adoption of digital currency and blockchain technology. Moreover, the depreciation of the yen and the rise in prices have had a negative impact on our daily lives. Domestically, there were active efforts toward reforming workstyles, educational systems, transitioning to renewable energy, and promoting regional revitalization to build a sustainable society.
For GIS, 2023 was a year of significant change. We redefined ourselves as an institution fostering global leaders and reaffirmed that our education environment and methods, conducting all classes in English as part of liberal arts education, respecting diversity, offering small-group education, and implementing active learning, are crucial for nurturing and fostering future global leaders. To further support student careers, we established GGLI (GIS Global Leadership Initiative) as an industry-academia collaboration organization, inviting executives and entrepreneurs from foreign-affiliated companies and Japanese global companies to join as fellows and strengthen our connections with diverse industries. Additionally, we initiated the Overseas Graduate School Admission Support program (GSAS) aimed at attaining master's degrees or higher for aspiring global leaders, and introduced various initiatives such as changes in entrance examinations and the GIS Ambassador program. These successes were made possible with the support and effort of many individuals. We deeply appreciate the collaboration of everyone involved.
As we welcome the Year of the Dragon in 2024, we aim for further growth towards a new stage. The Year of the Dragon symbolizes strength and success. Although the present times are uncertain, referred to as a VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) era, we aspire to move forward resolutely and achieve many successes. Our goal is to contribute to society by further developing our faculty. We are committed to enhancing the educational environment, unlocking the full potential of every student, and cultivating future global leaders. Moreover, we aim to strengthen partnerships within and beyond the faculty, fostering diverse perspectives and knowledge exchange, which we anticipate will drive innovation. Of course, as faculty members, we will continue our efforts as researchers to advance research for a sustainable future.
May the new year be filled with hope and fulfillment for everyone. Once again, we kindly ask for your continued support this year.
