【学部ニュース】Leadership and Career Developmentの授業を終えて／Reflections on the Leadership and Career Development Course

2024年度春学期月曜日5限に開講されたLeadership and Career Developmentという科目（主に2年生～4年生対象）では、産業界で活躍するビジネスパーソン（GGLIフェロー）を12人招き、GIS生に対して講義・講演を行って頂きました。この試みは、理論だけでなく実践に基づいた知識と経験を学生に提供することを目的としており、結果的に多くの良い成果をもたらしたように思います。

まず、学生たちは講義を通じて、現場のリアルな話を直接聞くことができました。各ビジネスパーソンが自身のキャリアパス、リーダーシップスタイル、業界のトレンドや課題について語ることで、学生たちは教科書には載っていない生きた情報を得ることができました。また、具体的な事例を交えて話すことで、理論と実践を結びつける力を養うことができました。

さらに、講師陣の多様性も大きなメリットとなりました。ビジネスパーソンたちの業界や職種は多岐に渡るため、学生たちはさまざまな視点やアプローチを学ぶことができました。例えば起業家からは、社会課題の解決を目的としたビジネスだけでなく、彼らが起業に至った理由や企業が成長するためのドライバーについても学びました。外資系企業のリーダーたちからはグローバル市場におけるトレンドやAIを含む最先端技術、迅速な意思決定の重要性等について学びました。さらに日系グローバル企業のリーダーたちからは、所属する企業やサービス内容の紹介とともに、社会人として活躍する際に必要なマインドセットや製品・商品の品質の重要性等について学びました。GIS生たちはこうした多様な視点を得ることで、自分のキャリアに対する考え方が広がり、より多角的に物事を捉える力が養われることができたようです。

実際、多くのGIS生からは「ビジネスパーソンの皆さんの話を聞いて、自分のキャリアに対する具体的なビジョンが見えてきた」「自分も将来、こうしたリーダーになりたいと思った」といったポジティブなフィードバックが多く寄せられました。

GISとしては、今後も産業界との繋がりを大切にするとともに連携を強化していく予定です。そして、学生たちにとって価値のある学びの場、学生たちの成長を支援するための環境を整え続けていきます。

しかし、最終的にその環境をどのように活用し、どれだけ自分の成長に繋げるかは、学生自身の手にかかっています。講義を受けるだけでなく、産業界のリーダーたちとのネットワーキングを通じて自分の将来に役立つ人脈を築くことも重要です。また、講義で学んだことを実際に自ら試してみること、直接質問をすること、そしてフィードバックをもらうことで、さらに深い学びが得られるでしょう。GIS生には、積極的に学び、挑戦し続けることで、自分の未来を切り拓いていって欲しいと思います。

In the 2024 spring semester, we offered the course "Leadership and Career Development" during the fifth period on Mondays, primarily for second- to fourth-year students. This course featured lectures and presentations by 12 business professionals (GGLI Fellows) who are active in various industries, and it had the objective of providing GIS students with knowledge and experience that is grounded in both theory and practice. This initiative has yielded many positive outcomes.

Firstly, the students had the opportunity to hear real-life stories directly from the business field through these lectures. Each business professional shared insights about their career paths and leadership styles, and talked about industry trends and challenges, offering students up-to-date information which can’t be obtained from textbooks. Additionally, these speakers incorporated concrete examples in their talks which allowed students to develop their ability to connect theory with practice.

The diversity of the lecturers also proved to be a significant advantage. The business professionals came from a wide range of industries and professions, allowing students to learn from various perspectives and approaches. For example, entrepreneur speakers gave an opportunity to students to learn not only about businesses aimed at solving social issues but also about the reasons behind the entrepreneurial journey of the speaker and furthermore students could learn about the drivers of business growth. Leaders from foreign companies discussed trends in the global market, cutting-edge technologies including AI, and the importance of quick decision-making. Furthermore, leaders from Japanese global companies introduced their companies and services while emphasizing the kind of mindset needed for success in the business world and the importance of product quality. GIS students were able to broaden their views through these diverse perspectives in regard to career decisions and they could develop a more multifaceted understanding of the business world.

Many GIS students provided positive feedback, stating that hearing the stories of the 12 business professionals gave them a clear vision for their own careers and inspired them to become leaders in the future.

GIS plans to continue valuing and strengthening our connections with the business industry. We will keep providing valuable learning opportunities and creating an environment that supports students' growth.

However, ultimately, it really comes down to students in regard to how best to utilize this environment and to what degree it can contribute to personal growth. It is important that students not only attend lectures but also build networks with industry leaders as this will be very beneficial for the future. Additionally, students can achieve deeper learning by applying what they have learned in practice, being frank when asking questions, and by actively seeking out feedback. We encourage GIS students to actively learn and to continuously challenge themselves in order to pave the way toward their own futures.
