GIS(グローバル教養学部)1年生のみなさん、

Dear 1st year students,

This is Professor Fukuoka, the dean of GIS. On behalf of the faculty members at GIS, I would like to repeat my welcome to you and hope that you are starting to feel at home within the GIS community.

Hopefully you've been making new friends and enjoying your classes. Our professors and older GIS students are very approachable and are always happy to help, so don't be shy about approaching them. I'm also glad to hear that some of you have already been to the GIS Reference Room on the 1st floor of the Fujimizaka Building. Our colleague who works there, Mr Sullivan, offers various ways to support our students, including general advice about studying, guidance about overseas study and also specific feedback about students' assignments.

Often our new students find their first semester challenging. Many of you need to adapt to living by themselves, away from their families and old friends. The interactive, all-English learning environment can also be very new and take some getting used to. Now that we are in Week 4, you will have a better idea of how things are going. While you can find support in many ways, we would like to inform you of the upcoming consultations that we offer to all our first year students. Any student who would like to have an individual consultation with one of the GIS faculty is welcome to sign up by using the Google Form:https://forms.gle/XHWSgVbhWCNbD8x49 by May 22nd. Please note that you'll need to be logged in to your Hosei email account to access this. These are available in English or Japanese and you are free to discuss any general or specific issues you may have.
I wish you good luck with your studies and look forward to seeing you around campus.

Kind regards,

Professor Fukuoka
GIS Dean
