【学部ニュース】日本の空を支える挑戦 ～GIS卒業生が歩む日本航空の空港企画～（畠山快さん）

畠山さん：入社してから1年半は株式会社JALスカイに出向し、国際線のグランドスタッフとしてチェックインカウンターや搭乗ゲート、お手荷物の返却業務等に従事しておりました。 その後、日本航空株式会社空港企画部に配属され、現在に至ります。空港企画部で担当している主な業務内容は以下の3つです。

１．イレギュラー発生時の対応　便の遅延や欠航等のイレギュラーが発生した際のシステム処理や各国入国管理局との調整、他航空会社との連携やお客さまのご旅程の変更等を担当しております。
２．空港のサポート業務　弊社が就航している国際線空港や関係部門、機内のパイロットや客室乗務員からの問い合わせに対応する社内窓口業務と、必要に応じた社内外との連携を行っております。問い合わせの内容は、お客さまのご渡航書類や輸送制限品、各国の制約等多岐に渡ります。
３．空港に関係する新規プロジェクト対応　新たなシステムの導入や、契約締結の調整を行っております。至近では、コードシェア運航の開始等、国外航空会社との連携強化に携わっております。

Mr. Hatakeyama: For the first year and a half, I was part of JAL SKY Co.,Ltd., as an international flight ground staff member where I handled things like checking bags, check-in counters, boarding gates. After that, I was assigned to my current position in the Airport Planning Department, as part of Japan Airlines. My main duties in the Airport Planning Department are:

1. Handle Irregularities: I’m responsible for system processing when irregularities like flight delays or cancellations occur. I coordinate with immigration authorities in different countries, liaison with other airlines, and manage changes to passengers’ itineraries.
2. Airport Support: I serve as an internal point of contact for inquiries coming from international airports where we operate, other related departments, and in-flight pilots and crew, and I coordinate with internal and external parties as needed to cover a wide range of topics, including customer travel documents, restricted items, and country-specific regulations.
3. New Airport-Related Projects: I also handle the implementation of new systems and coordinate contract negotiations. Recently, we’ve been involved in strengthening partnerships with foreign airlines, like with the implementation of code-sharing operations.

畠山さん：テーマパークでのアルバイト活動や法政大学オープンキャンパススタッフの活動を通し、多様な人々と関わることに力を入れておりました。

Mr. Hatakeyama: When I was a student, I worked part-time at a theme park, and as a staff member for Hosei’s Open Campus event, and I focused on interacting with a diverse range of people.

畠山さん：GISで学んだ“Critical thinking” を生かし、どんな場面においても自分の目標を見失わず、客観性と主観性を持ち合わせることを意識して業務を行っています。提携先とのミーティングでロンドンに出張した際、事前に想定していた方向で話し合いが進まず、現地で苦慮したことがありました。そのような状況においても、多角的な視点から物事を考えることを意識し、双方の現状とゴールを再確認することで、解決の糸口を見つけることができました。厳しい状況におかれている時こそ自分に疑いの目を向け、客観的に見つめ直す力は、GISでの活発な意見交換で身に付いたものだと自負しています。

Mr. Hatakeyama: Applying the critical thinking skills I learned in GIS, I make a conscious effort to maintain both objectivity and subjectivity so that I never lose sight of my goals no matter the situation. During a business trip to London for a meeting with one of our partner companies, I found myself struggling, the meeting wasn’t going the way I anticipated. Even then, by consciously considering the issue from multiple perspectives, reconfirming both parties’ goals and status, I was able to find a way to move forward. I’m confident that the ability to question myself, to objectively reassess the situation, especially when I’m in difficult circumstances, is a skill that comes directly from my time, discussion, and exchange of ideas at GIS.

畠山さん：今後は海外空港や支店での業務を通して、日本や弊社に対してより多くの方に興味を持っていただけるようになることが目標です。将来的には、現在よりももっと沢山の皆さまに「日本を訪れる、または、日本から離れるなら日本航空」と言っていただけるような価値を提供することができるよう、精一杯努めてまいります。

Mr. Hatakeyama: I want to use my experience at overseas airports and branch offices to encourage more interest in Japan and the Japan Airlines company in the public. In the future, I will do my utmost best to provide value that will have more people saying, “Whether I’m coming or going, I’ll choose Japan Airlines.”

畠山さん：多様性あふれるさまざまな人との出会いが学年問わずあることです。いろいろな背景を持つ学生が集まり、GISならではのさまざまな授業を学ぶことで、本当に多くのことを吸収できた4年間だったと感じております。英語力や国籍、年齢が異なっている仲間と切磋琢磨しながら学べたことはかけがえのない財産であり、GISで出会った仲間との交流は今でも続いています。また、「勉強を強制されている」印象が全くなく、幅広い分野について能動的に学べる体制が整っていることで、入学前と比べて視野が格段に広くなったと感じています。

Mr. Hatakeyama: I loved the opportunity to meet such a diverse range of people, across all the years of their education. Students from all sorts of backgrounds come together at GIS, and by taking unique courses, I was able to learn so much over the course of those four years. Being able to learn, while pushing each other to excel, regardless of English proficiency, nationality, or age has been invaluable, and I still keep in touch with the friends I met at GIS. Furthermore, I never felt like I was being “forced” to study. Instead, the system let me explore a wide range of fields and feel my horizons were broadened significantly, compared to when I entered the University.

畠山さん：自分のやりたいことが決まっている方であっても、そうでない方であっても、英語が好きな方であればどんな人でも受け入れてくれる学部であると思っております。私自身はGIS入学当初の英語クラスは一番下のクラスでしたが、手厚いフォローや意欲的に学べる環境のおかげで、卒業時には一番上のクラスレベルの英語スコアを獲得することができるようになりました。英語に不安がある方であっても、英語が好きな方であれば思う存分学べる環境がGISには揃っていると感じます。少人数授業ならではの活発な議論と、好きなことを好きなだけ学べる環境、そして、手を取り合える一生涯の仲間が必ず見つかるはずです!

Mr. Hatakeyama: Whether you know what you want to do or not, GIS welcomes anyone who enjoys English. When I first entered, I was placed in the lowest level English class. But it was thanks to the support of the environment, and the active encouragement to learn, that I was able to achieve the highest-level English score by the time I graduated. I feel like GIS provides the perfect environment for anyone who loves English with all their heart, even if they’re anxious about actually using the language. You’re going to find lively discussions unique to small-class settings, an environment where you can study what you love how you love, and lifelong friends who support each other!
