GISへの志望理由を教えてください。
私がGISに出願することを選んだ主な理由は、すべて英語で行われる講義に大変興味を引かれたからです。私は4年間アメリカに住んでいて、アメリカに住んでいる間は普通の小学校に通っていました。この経験により、私は日本語よりも英語を聞く方が慣れており、GISのすべての授業が英語で行われる環境が私にとって理想的だと思ったからです。
The main reason why I chose to apply to GIS is because I was greatly intrigued by the all-English lectures given by the faculty. I lived in the United States for four years, and while living in the States, I went to a regular elementary school. Due to this experience, I am more comfortable listening to English than Japanese, and the all-English environment at GIS was ideal for me.
なぜ英語外部試験利用入試の受験を決めたのでしょうか。
私が英語外部試験利用入試を選んだ理由は、高校3年生の時に受けたIELTS という英語検定で高いスコアを取得できたため、大学受験に利用したいと考えたからです。ウェブサイトやパンフレットなどを調べたところ、GISの英語外部試験利用入試では英語検定のスコアを高い割合で「英語」科目の点数に換算してくれるということがわかり、自分に合った受験方式であると思いました。
I opted for the English external examination admission route because I obtained a high score on the IELTS English proficiency test during my third year of high school. Since I put a lot of effort into my English studies, I thought I should make use of it for university admissions. After reviewing GIS admissions materials, I found that my external English test scores can significantly impact my English subject score for admissions. I thought this was perfect for me and decided to apply through this system.
高校で英語以外に熱心に取り組んだ科目とその理由を教えてください。また、GISでの学びにつながっていますか。
高校で2年間、世界史を熱心に学びました。世界史で得た知識と法政大学の講義内容の間に多くのつながりを感じました。一例として、グレゴリー・ケズナジャット教授の「文学入門」の授業では、クラスで使用した多くの本や物語の背景に、世界史に関連する様々な背景がありました。
I studied world history with great interest for two years in high school. I have been able to discover numerous connections between my studies in world history and the content of the lectures at GIS. For example, in Professor Khezrnejat’s “Introduction to Literature” course, many of the texts examined featured diverse historical contexts connected to various aspects of world history.
どのように受験勉強を進めましたか。
私の高校は大学受験に比較的力を入れている学校であり、部活動の引退は高校2年生の3月だったので、受験勉強に支障はなかったです。部活動引退後すぐに予備校に入塾し、受験勉強を始めました。入塾当初は国公立大学を受験する予定でいたので、主に数学に力を入れていましたが、夏頃に文系私立大学を受験する方向に変更しました。その後は主に世界史を中心に勉強し、最後の受験が終わるまでその方向で勉強をつづけました。
My high school was relatively focused on university entrance exam preparation, and club activities ended in March of my second year, so there was no interference with my exam studies. I immediately enrolled at “Toshin satellite cram school” after finishing my club activities and began studying for entrance exams. Initially, I planned to take national and public university entrance exams, so I mainly focused on mathematics. However, in the summer, I changed my mind and decided to apply to private liberal arts universities. After that, I primarily studied world history until I completed my final entrance exam.
GISの一般選抜入試に向けてどのように対策しましたか。
インターネットで過去問を調べ、試験日の数週間前から数回、現代文の問題を解きました。
I looked up past exam questions online and practiced modern Japanese reading comprehension problems several times in the weeks leading up to the exam.
英語外部試験利用入試のメリットを教えてください。
IELTSテストで良いスコアを取得したので、この点数を大学入試に活用したいと思いました。私が利用した英語外部試験利用入試は、IELTSのスコアを「英語」科目の点数に換算し、実際の入試に使えるようにしてくれました。スコアが点数に換算された後、「英語」科目で満点を取ることができ、試験に合格しやすくなりました。
Since I got a good IELTS test score, I wanted to use this for my university admissions exam. The entrance examination method that I used reflects my IELTS score fully and converts them into points. After my scores were converted into points, I was able to get a full score on the English part, which made it easier for me to pass the exam.
出願時の英語スコアを教えてください。
IELTS 7.5
合格の秘訣とアドバイスをお願いします。
GISの試験対策だけでなく、他大学や様々な英語外部試験の勉強をすることで、英語外部試験で高いスコアを取得することができ、初めて見る入試問題にも慌てることなく対応することができると思います。私の場合、他大学の入試問題の「英語」を何回も解いているうちに、その大学の問題が解けるようになるだけではなく、IELTSの高スコア取得にもつながりました。
Rather than focusing solely on studying for GIS entrance exams, I believe that by studying for other universities and various English proficiency tests, you can achieve high scores on those tests and will be able to address the entrance exam questions that you will see for the first time. In my own case, while repeatedly solving English problems from Waseda University entrance exams, I not only became able to solve problems from that university, but it also led to the high score I achieved on the IELTS.
GISに入学してよかったことはありますか。
第一に、世界中の様々な場所で生まれたり、留学したりした人など、様々な背景を持った人に出会えて、仲良くなれたことです。第二に、一つの分野に集中して勉強するのではなく、音楽や美学から、ビジネス学や経済学など、幅広い分野の学問を学べるところです。自分は入学時、大学で専門的に学びたい学問や、将来就きたい仕事などが全く決まっていなかったので、様々な分野を広く学べるGISは、自分にとって理想的な環境でした。
First, I was able to meet and become friends with people from various backgrounds, including those who were born in different places from around the world or studied abroad. Second, rather than concentrating on studying one field, I could learn about a wide range of academic disciplines, from music and aesthetics to business and economics. When I entered university, I had no idea what I wanted to study professionally or what career I wanted to pursue in the future, so GIS, where I could study various fields broadly, was the ideal environment for me.
