2025年4月に一般選抜入試 A方式でGISに入学した学生にインタビューしました。受験時のエピソードや学習方法に加え、GIS入学後の感想についてもお話しいただきました。また、合格の秘訣やアドバイス、受験生へのメッセージも紹介しています。

高校で英語以外に熱心に取り組んだ科目とその理由を教えてください。また、GISでの学びにつながっていますか。
私が英語以外で頑張った科目は、数学と古典です。数学は英語の次に得意な科目だったため、自然とやる気が出て、楽しく勉強を続けられました。そこで身についた集中力や論理的に考える力は、GISの授業はもちろん、普段の生活の中でも役立っていると感じます。一方、古典に対しては当初苦手意識がありましたが、受験において不利にならないよう一生懸命取り組みました。古典そのものはGISでの学びに直接つながっていませんが、「苦手なことにも挑戦する姿勢」は今でも大切にしています。
The subjects I worked hard on besides English were math and Japanese. Math was my second-strongest subject. So, I naturally felt motivated and enjoyed continuing my studies. The concentration and logical thinking developed there have helped me not only in GIS classes but also in everyday life. By comparison, I did not like classical Japanese. However, I was determined to become better at it, so I dedicated myself to studying diligently. Although the subject itself is not directly related to my studies in GIS, I think it is important to try my best at every subject.
GISの一般入試に向けてどのように対策しましたか。
まず、高校2年生のうちに出願資格である英検準1級を取得しました。そのうえで、試験科目である「国語」と「数学」の対策として赤本を5年分、3周解きました。数学は、間違えた問題をその場で必ず解き直すことを徹底しました。国語の現代文は、解き終えた後に要約を作成し、塾の先生に添削してもらうことで読解力を鍛えました。入試本番では同じ問題が出るわけではないので、「一問一問を丁寧に解くこと」を意識しました。
Firstly, at the age of 16, I obtained Eiken Pre-1, which is mandatory for students who want to enroll in GIS. To get ready for my math and Japanese exams, I practiced by solving past exam papers from the last three years. In terms of math, I made sure that I immediately reviewed the questions I got wrong. On the other hand, when I worked on Japanese, I wrote summaries of the passages, and I got some advice from a lecturer based on the summary that I wrote. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes to avoid making them again.
A方式入試に向けてどのように勉強を行いましたか。
高校時代は弓道部に所属していて、高校3年生の7月まで活動していました。部活をしている間は、まとまった時間をとることが難しかったので、通学の電車の中などスキマ時間を活用し、単語帳を見たり授業の復習をしたりしていました。部活を引退してからは、受験勉強に集中して取り組むことができました。
I belonged to Kyudo team in high school until July. It was difficult for me to find enough time to study, but I always tried to make use of short periods of time to study, English, classical Japanese, and so on at that time. After leaving the team, I was able to focus on my studies.

合格の秘訣とアドバイスはありますか。
私が大事にしていたことは「息抜き」です。疲れたら軽くおやつを食べたり、音楽を聴いたり、友達とおしゃべりしたりして、気分をリフレッシュしていました。勉強しても成果がすぐ出ないと落ち込むこともあると思います。でも「しんどいのは自分だけじゃない」と思って、気持ちを保つようにしていました。
What I value is taking time to relax when I get tired. I would often eat sweets, listen to my favorite music, or chat with my friends. Things don’t always go my way, but I remember my friends experience this too.
GISに入学してよかったことはありますか。
GISに入ってよかったことは二つあります。一つ目は、いろいろな国の友達と出会えることです。授業を通してお互いの文化を知ることができて、毎日が新しい発見の連続です。とても刺激的で楽しい学生生活を送っています。二つ目は、英語力が圧倒的に伸びることです。普段の授業がすべて英語なので、リスニングだけでなく読む・書く・話す力も自然と鍛えられます。英語が好きな人には最高の環境だと思います。
There are two good points to belong to GIS. First of all, I can make friends from overseas. I enjoy engaging with them in class and learning about their culture. Each day feels fresh, and I’m never bored. Secondly, your English skills will dramatically improve. Since all the classes are held in English, we can naturally develop not only our listening skills but also our reading, writing, and speaking skills. All in all, the environment is perfect here for students who want to study English.
