The Graduate School of Law strives to equip students with the skills they need to legally analyze and find better solutions to the various problems facing contemporary society. The disputes that occur in society can be analyzed from many different legal perspectives, but the Graduate School of Law builds on the basic knowledge students gain during their undergraduate education and offers a diverse array of lectures and seminars designed to equip them with the skills they need to flexibly interpret and apply that knowledge. Students are able to acquire the most up-to-date knowledge in various fields based on their interests, and to develop the basic skills they need to conduct research.

“Learn on the theoretical front lines of the “society of law”

The Graduate School of Law strives to equip students with the ability to analyze the various problems facing contemporary society and find better solutions to those problems by applying legal thought processes. With the legal environment now in a state of considerable transition, including legal system reform, the importance of exploring the law from a theoretical perspective is growing every day. In response to this demand, the Graduate School of Law conducts theoretical examinations to ensure that students are equipped with the various skills they need to (1) flexibly interpret and apply knowledge based on analyses performed from various legal perspectives to the conflicts (disputes) that occur in society, (2) construct a fair legal system that is needed to maintain social order, and (3) help protect the rights of individuals. Within this context, students will gain access to the most up-to-date and intensive knowledge in various fields, based on their interests and career goals. This program will help them acquire the basic knowledge they will need to conduct research, as well as the skills needed to become advanced professionals in their field. It will teach them legal concepts and penetrating insights that will be useful after they graduate or in their careers in the legal profession. The program offers a wide range of lectures and seminars for these objectives.

The curriculum of the major in law is distinctive in the following ways:

1. Offers a wealth of diversity, ranging from the exploration of basic legal principles and historical developments of laws to the examination of new legal issues relevant in contemporary society.
2. Encourages research using original texts, particularly those in English, German, and French to acquire comparative legal knowledge.
