Quick guide to Hosei University library (Ichigaya, Tama & Koganei libraries)

Hosei University has three campuses and each campus has its library. The catalogue of all the libraries is available online. You can have books and periodicals sent from the other campuses (Ichigaya, Tama and Koganei). Delivery is free and it takes about 1 day - 3 days normally. Ichigaya and Tama library are divided into two sections; open stacks, primarily intended for undergraduates, and closed stacks for graduates and academic staffs.

Ichigaya library

  • Monday-Saturday 9:00-22:00
  • Sunday 10:00-17:00

Tama library

  • Monday-Friday 9:00-21:00
  • Saturday 9:00-18:00
  • Sunday 10:00-17:00vv

Koganei library

  • Monday-Friday 9:00-21:00
  • Saturday 9:00-19:00
  • Sunday 10:00-17:00

*Each library is closed on national holidays and several days during school festival and vacation.

2. LIBRARY CARD

Library card is necessary when you use our library.As for Undergraduates and graduates, the student identification card serves as Library card and as for academic staff, the staff identification card does. As for Correspondence course and Subject completion students, part-time academic staff, Library card is issued at the counter of each library.

*Item limit of Open stacks is 10 regardless of user status.
*Some materials cannot be out on loan such as reference books with an “R” in its call number, current issues of periodicals, all kind of microforms, and most of the CD-ROMs.

4. SEARCHING FOR MATERIALS

On-line catalogue, called OPAC (=Online Public Access Catalogue) is used to search for the materials of Hosei University. It is also available on the Internet. Please visit our website and access “OPAC” .

5. YAMANOTE CONSORTIUM

Hosei University Library is a member of Yamanote Consortium, which facilitates the library service among its eight member universities; Aoyama Gakuin University, Gakushuin University, Kokugakuin University, Toyo University, Meiji University, Meiji Gakuin University, Rikkyo University and Hosei University. You can use these university libraries. When you visit these libraries, you need to carry your school ID with you. And please keep the rules of each library.

6. RENEWING MATERIALS

You can prolong the period of borrowing the material(s) on condition that no one else has made a reservation for it/them and that you have no overdue material(s). You can defer your return date on-line by yourself for the first time, and for the second time you need to bring the material(s) to the counter in order to renew it/them.

7. RESERVE SERVICES

You can make a reservation on-line up to 20 items when the material(s)* that you need is/are borrowed. We will give you a call when the material(s) is/are returned. Please follow the instruction on-line or ask at the counter.
* Some materials are not applicable to this system.

8. PURCHASE REQUEST

Requests will be evaluated based on the libraries’ collection policies and the availability of funds, Materials that support the research and teaching programs of the university will be given first priority. Request forms are available at the counter.

9. PHOTOCOPYING

Self-service photocopiers are on several floors of each library. You can purchases a copy card from the vending machine in the library.

10. CD-ROMS AND MICROFORMS

You may use CD-ROMs and microforms in the library. Please ask at the counter for further details.

11. ON-LINE DATABASES

On-line databases such as EBSCOhost, JSTOR, Science Direct are available on the closed stacks floor of each library. Please fill in the form at the counter before using the on-line databases.

12. INTERLIBRARY LOAN and DOCUMENT DELIVERY

Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Service allows Hosei University students, faculty and staff to request materials from other libraries. Request forms are available at the reference counter.
