The Japanese economy has recently experienced a rapid “internationalization” in various aspects and a number of problems have occurred as a result. The Institute of Comparative Economic Studies was established in order to investigate these problems from an international point of view. The main survey fields of the Institute are international economic relations, especially between Japan and east/south-east Asian countries, as well as between Japan and other industrialized nations.
