Due to the expanding impact of the novel coronavirus infection, we have decided to postpone the start of the spring term from April 7, 2020 to Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
However, we will maintain the original scheduled start of the academic year of April 1, 2020, and the period from April 1 through April 21, 2020 will be considered a period for issuing lesson guidance and preparing for lessons in an environment designed to prevent infection.
We have detailed guidance relating to the changes to the academic calendar in the link below, so please be sure to check it.

III University events other than the above and student activities (partially updated March 23, 2020)

  • We have decided to extend our current policy detailed below regarding the holding of all other university functions, events and activities until Monday, April 20, 2020.

1 The Holding of Hosei University Functions, Events and Student Extracurricular Activities
We will make decisions on the holding, cancellation, postponement or events, or the changing of event conditions, after considering the health and safety of participants and the need to avoid infection risk.
(i)     Events of a certain size (with 30 or more participants) where there is a strong possibility of the participants’ contact with a large number of people
(ii)    Events and activities in poorly ventilated indoor spaces that involve close contact and talking among participants for a certain length of time
(ⅲ)  Events that involve the participation of a large number of people at high infection risk

2 Events organized by the university
The responsible offices shall consider cancelling, postponing, and revising plans for events organized by the university based on the above. The university will update the webpage below constantly to announce events that have been cancelled or postponed. Please contact the organizers or the responsible offices for questions on whether a specific event will be held.

3 Non-university sponsored events organized by students, faculty and staff members, or other university-affiliated individuals
We are not demanding that you cancel or refrain from attending such events, but we ask host organizations and groups to consider carefully whether a specific event is really necessary based on the general rules 1, 2, and 3 listed above. If they do decide to proceed with the events, they must take all necessary steps to reduce the risks of infection.

4 Extracurricular activities by students of the university using student facilities (updated March 23)
Extracurricular activities by students of the university using student facilities will be suspended in principle from the perspective of preventing infection clusters. Please refer to the following notifications for the suspension periods and other details.
