The field of information and communication technologies (ICT) has been developing rapidly since the explosive expansion of the Internet and broadband connectivity services. We are seeing technological innovations in cloud computing, and dramatic progress is being made in terms of ubiquitous connectivity, thanks to the development of devices that offer advanced functionality in small packages. Remarkable progress is also being made in terms of human interfaces and applied technologies that incorporate image processing.
The fields of research this program covers include computer engineering, information network engineering, information process engineering, and human information engineering. In the field of computer engineering, which provides important foundations of knowledge, students study architecture, algorithms, and programming aimed at improving the processing speed, efficiency, and intelligence of computers. In the field of information network engineering, students examine the networking technologies that enable multiple computers to interact via a network, as typified by the Internet, and process information through networks like the Web. In the field of information process engineering, students learn about information-processing technologies used for processing images and intelligence, which are essential in applications that use computers and networks. The field of human information engineering examines technologies that link humans to computers to make computers easier to use and more accessible.
Students in this program have access to a team of instructors in the many diverse fields of applied information engineering, and frequently publish papers in academic journals and present papers at international conferences. The program aims to cultivate engineers and researchers with a broad range of basic and specialized academic skills as well as creative thinking skills who will play a leading role in developing technologies in this field.
