Graduate School of Regional Policy Design

Japanese-based Degree Programs

This graduate school cultivates advanced, specialized professionals responsible for policy development, regional (urban) development, and industrial creation, as well as researchers equipped with specialized knowledge and practical skills through the type of diverse and flexible curriculum befitting an independent graduate school. The Graduate School of Regional Policy Design has the following distinctive features:

  1. Three design groups (public policy design, urban policies culture design, and regional industry policies design) divided into nine programs: economic, social, and living policy; employment policy; public policy process; urban policy; urban environment design; urban culture design; industrial cluster policy; social entrepreneurship policy; and CSR policy. By studying these programs comprehensively and individually, students are able to develop creative thinking skills for solving problems, and are able to hone their policy senses and skills and global knowledge, as well as policy creation skills.
  2. Offers a workshop program in cooperation with local government agencies that gives students the holy trinity of education and research: classes that teach essential knowledge and skills in policy research, education that fosters creative ideas in the field, and opportunities to refine one’s policy senses and develop real-world policy formulation and implementation skills.
  3. Before their admission, after their enrollment, and until they complete their master’s or doctoral degree, students receive thoughtful guidance and advice from sharp, first-class instructors in the policy field and from the full-time graduate school directors (instructors who are responsible for offering curricular and research guidance, and who handle this graduate school’s management and operational affairs).
  4. Weekday evening and weekend courses are offered on the conveniently located downtown Ichigaya Campus so that working adults can pursue their education while maintaining a job. This graduate school also supports working adult students through its long-term study system (offered as an option at the time of admission).

Major in Regional Policy Design

The core curriculum in this major focuses on three groups—public policies design, urban policies culture design, and regional industry policies design. In turn, these three groups are comprised of nine programs—economic, social, and living policy; employment policy; public policy process; urban policy; urban environment design; urban culture design; industrial cluster policy; social entrepreneurship policy; and CSR policy. Education and research on new regional policy design is conducted from both general and specific perspectives. This program strives to teach problem-solving skills and policy design skills, and to cultivate highly specialized professionals and researchers who can create new value and disseminate information to the world. To accomplish this, it offers a program conducted in cooperation with local governments and other agencies—a kind of internship program—that gives students the holy trinity of education and research: development of essential knowledge and skills in policy research, education that fosters creative ideas in the field, and opportunities to refine one’s policy senses and develop real-world policy formulation and implementation skills.
