Graduate School of Business Administration

Japanese-based Degree Programs

“Developing professionals in business administration and corporate management who will become our future leaders”

The Graduate School of Business Administration was established to examine actual business administration while studying the activities of people within those business organizations and environments, and to educate students on related findings.
The activities of organizations and human beings are diverse. In exploring a particular phenomenon, a researcher can drown in the flood of complex phenomena that occur every day in the real world. However, an exploration of various phenomena that may on the surface appear to be quite different can sometimes reveal shared origins. To gain a deeper understanding of chaotic realities, it is important to understand principles (theories). Studying theory and identifying essential elements make it possible to better understand reality. The Graduate School of Business Administration aims to cultivate individuals who are able to engage in this type of thinking.
Both the master’s and doctoral program with the major in business administration offers daytime and evening (for working adults) courses. The evening master’s degree course was established in 1992, and has already produced nearly 700 graduates (who hold master’s degrees in business administration, or MBAs). The evening doctoral course enables working adults to earn a doctoral degree while maintaining a job. This graduate school offers several options to those who want to study business administration. In April 2013, the program in lifelong learning and career studies will be established as an independent Graduate School of Lifelong Learning and Career Studies capable of meeting new social needs.

Major in Business Administration

The daytime course of the program in business administration split off from the program in economics in 1992, and has produced many researchers and advanced professionals through its specialized education in business administration. The program teaches theoretical approaches to business administration, covering basic to applied knowledge, and enables students to learn the various techniques used to empirically analyze actual business activities and social phenomena. It offers an education that emphasizes personal instruction to accommodate the needs of individual graduate students.

Distinctive Features

Students in this program can study many different aspects of corporate management, including organizations, human resources, strategy, accounting, finance, international management, marketing, and business history. They can also take classes in fields such as economics and statistics that are relevant to fields outside of business administration, and use them to develop comprehensive perspectives on corporate management. In addition to attending lectures and participating in discussions that impart advanced knowledge and theories, students will ultimately attempt to write a high-quality master’s thesis/research paper /doctoral dissertation through an independent advisory process.

Goals

  1. Cultivate researchers who will conduct advanced research that can be used in research institutes and academic societies and educators who can present high-level education at educational institutions
  2. Cultivate business managers and professionals who can address high-level management issues in businesses and other organizations

Daytime Courses

Along with theoretical approaches for everything from business administration fundamentals to practical applications, daytime courses at Hosei entail various techniques for empirical analyses of real-world corporate activities and social phenomena. Further, we emphasize one-on-one instruction in our teaching approaches.
Wide-ranging research into various aspects of corporate management includes organizations, personnel, strategy, accounting, finance, international management, marketing, and business history. We also offer courses related to economics and statistics, enabling cultivation of a comprehensive view of corporate management.
Acquiring advanced expertise and theory through lectures and discussions, students also receive the kind of meticulous, personalized instruction that enables them to produce high-quality master’s thesis/research paper/doctoral theses.

Evening Courses

Hosei Business School (HBS) is an alternative name for Hosei University’s evening courses in business administration. Established in 1992, HBS was a pioneer among Japanese business schools. Various theories related to practical business can be studied in five HBS courses. Auditing other courses, majors, and curricula at other graduate schools is possible as well. Students can acquire specializations and broad expertise simultaneously.
At HBS, students gain the expertise needed to construct theories and gather empirical proof in small group lectures featuring two-way discussions about everything from the fundamentals to practical applications. Furthermore, students learn about cutting-edge corporate management trends at workshops that also feature guest speakers, helping them acquire practical expertise and skills. A significant HBS feature is the requirement to produce a master’s thesis. Students are truly enriched by the process of finishing a master’s thesis, using their previous practical experiences and the knowledge they gain at HBS.

Course Program

Entrepreneurship Course

This course’s objective is to train entrepreneurs, the next generation’s corporate managers, and entrepreneurs. To supplement the diverse curriculum, actual entrepreneurs are invited to hold workshops. They speak about management problems and issues they have confronted while starting up companies or ventures and how they solved them, holding lively discussions with teachers and students afterward.

Human Resources and Organizational Management Course

You can pursue a wide range of topics related to personnel and organizations in this management course. Empirical research is emphasized, and the instruction provided in research methods corresponds to your research goals, whether that involves organizational data collection, workplace case study research, interview surveys, corporate and labor union interviews, or analyses of questionnaires and statistical data. Businesspeople also give lectures and case studies.

Marketing Course

This course features a good balance between marketing theory learned primarily through lectures and discussion and studies of quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques combined with drills. The course has an originality not seen at other graduate schools and serves as an introductory program for learning about all of marketing, as well as a chance to link practical expertise with job experience.

Accounting and Finance Course

Advanced corporate accounting and finance expertise can be systematically obtained in these two sub-courses. Accounting personnel can use the accounting sub-course as a refresher and skill-building course and focus on accounting and related fields. Corporate finance and theory and applications related to securities investments are studied in the finance sub-course.
