Office of the President

Atsushi Kanai / Vice President

Born in 1957. Professor, Faculty of Science and Engineering. Obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Tohoku University School of Engineering in 1980 and his Master of Engineering from the same School in 1982. Earned his Ph.D. (Information Science) from Tohoku University in 2002. Joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation Yokosuka Electrical Communication Laboratory in 1982. Became Senior Researcher of NTT Information Sharing Platform Laboratories in 1999, General Manager of Research Planning Department, NTT Information Sharing Laboratory Group in 2002 and Information Security Project Manager and Senior Researcher of NTT Information Sharing Platform Laboratories in 2004. Became Professor at Hosei University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering in 2008 (a post he continues to hold to the present). His past service includes Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering in 2018 (until March 2020), Councilor of Hosei University in 2018 (until March 2020), and Director of the Research Center for Computing and Multimedia Studies in 2020 (until March 2021). Became a Trustee, Executive Trustee and Councilor (up to the present) and a Vice President of Hosei University (up to the present) in 2021. 

Atsushi Kanai, Executive Trustee

Born in 1960. Professor, Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies. Graduated from the University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Social Sciences in 1983 and earned her M.Phil (Sociology) from the University of Hong Kong in 1985. Earned a M.A. (Sociology) at Stanford University in 1987. Completed the doctoral course requirements at Stanford University and earned her Ph.D. (Sociology) in 1994. Positions at Hosei University include full-time lecturer in the Faculty of General Education in 1999, Assistant Professor in the same faculty in 2001, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law in 2003 and Professor in 2005. Became a Professor, Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies in 2008 (up to the present) and Dean of Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies in 2015 (until March 2017). Became Councilor of Hosei University in 2015 (until March 2017), and returned to the position of Dean of Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies in 2019 (until March 2020). Became Councilor of Hosei University in 2019 (until March 2020). Became a Trustee, Executive Trustee and Councilor and Vice President of Hosei University in 2021 (posts she continues to hold to the present).

Diana Khor / Vice President

Shinya Iwasaki / Vice President

Born in 1961. Professor, Faculty of Social Policy and Administration. Graduated from Chuo University, Faculty of Law in 1983. Earned his master’s degree at Japan College of Social Work’s Graduate School of Social Welfare in 1994. Withdrew from doctoral course at Tokyo Metropolitan University’s Graduate School of Social Sciences in 1995. Earned his Ph.D. (Human Welfare) from Hosei University in 2020. Became a research associate in the Faculty of Humanities Department of Social Welfare, Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1995. Positions at Hosei University include Assistant Professor, The Ohara Institute for Social Research, Hosei University in 1998, full-time lecturer at Faculty of Social Policy and Administration in 2000, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Social Policy and Administration in 2001, and Professor, Faculty of Social Policy and Administration in 2006 (up to the present). Became Dean of Faculty of Social Policy and Administration in 2016 (until March 2018). Became Councilor of Hosei University in 2016 (until March 2018) and Assistant Vice President of Hosei University in 2018 (until March 2021). Became a Trustee, Executive Trustee and Councilor (up to the present) and Vice President of Hosei University (up to the present) in 2021.

Shinya Iwasaki / Vice President

Toshiyuki Okuyama / Vice President

Born in 1962. Professor at the Faculty of Economics. Graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Hosei University in 1986. Earned his master’s degree from the University’s Graduate School of Sociology in 1989, his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1993 and, other than his Dissertation, completed all his Ph.D. course requirements at the Hosei University Graduate School of Sociology, also in 1993. Became an Assistant at the Department of Economics of Hirosaki University Faculty of Humanities in 1993, a Full-time Lecturer at the University in 1993, an Assistant Professor at the University in 1995, an Assistant Professor at Hosei University Faculty of Economics in 1996, a Professor at the University’s Faculty in 2002 (a post he continues to hold to the present), the Dean of the Graduate School of Economics in 2011 (until March 2013), the Dean of the Faculty of Economics in 2015 (until March 2017), and a Councilor of Hosei University in 2015 (until March 2017). In 2017, he became a Trustee, Executive Trustee and Councilor of Hosei University (up to the present) and, also in 2017, a Vice President of Hosei University (up to the present).

Toshiyuki Okuyama / Vice President

Tetsu Sano / Vice President

Born in 1964. Professor, Faculty of Business Administration. Graduated from Nihon University, College of Economics in 1987. Earned his master’s degree at Rikkyo University’s Graduate School of Economics in 1989. Other than Dissertation, completed all Ph.D. course requirements at Hitotsubashi University Graduate School of Social Sciences in 1993, and earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from Hitotsubashi University’s Graduate School in 2001. Became a researcher of the Japan Institute of Labour (today’s Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training) in 1993 and a senior researcher of the Institute in 1998. Became Assistant Professor at Hosei University’s Faculty of Business Administration in 2003 and Professor in 2004 (a post he continues to hold to the present). His past service includes the Director of Learning Environment Support Center, Hosei University Center for Higher Education Development and Support in 2013 (until March 2018), Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration in 2018 (until March 2021), and Councilor of Hosei University in 2018 (until March 2021). Became a Trustee, Executive Trustee and Councilor (up to the present) and a Vice President of Hosei University (up to the present) in 2021.

Tetsu Sano / Vice President

Born in 1968. Professor, Faculty of Letters. Graduated from Keio University, Faculty of Letters in 1990. Earned his master’s degree from Keio University’s Graduate School of Letters in 1992. Other than Dissertation, completed all Ph.D. course requirements at Keio University’s Graduate School, Division of Letters in 1995, and earned his Ph.D. in Literature from Keio University Graduate School in 2006. Became a full-time lecturer at Edogawa Women's Junior College in 1995. Became a full-time lecturer at Hosei University Faculty of Letters in 1998, Assistant Professor in 2001 (Associate Professor from April 2007) and Professor in 2009 (a post he continues to hold to the present). His past service includes Chairman of the Steering Committee, Graduate School of Humanities International Japanese Studies Institute in 2014 (until March 2016), Dean of the Faculty of Letters in 2017 (until March 2021) and Councilor of Hosei University in 2017 (until March 2021). Became a Trustee, Executive Trustee and Councilor and a Vice President of Hosei University in 2021.
