Courses/Programs with restricted access

It depends on the results of language placement test conducted at the beginning of the semester. Students with a high level of Japanese proficiency will be able to attend and take part in the regular courses and seminars conducted in Japanese. The Program Director will give advises on the course registration to exchange students.

ESOP offers 11 courses on Japan-related topics in English (As of Academic Year 2011). Each faculty also offers some courses in English.

Housing

There are no on-campus housings. However, Hosei University offers the following designated housings for exchange students. (As of February 2012)

1) Dormitory Nakakasai (for female students)

Hosei University subsidizes half of the rent of the above accommodations. The actual rent as of February 2012 is ¥30,500-.

Finding off-campus housing (Not designated by university)
No direct assistance offered.
 
Health Insurance Requirements

Exchange students must enrol in "National Health Insurance" (Kokumin Kenko Hoken) after arrival. "Insurance for Hosei University International Students" (Hosei Daigaku Gaikokujin Ryugakusei no tame no Gakusei Hoken) is optional.

Visa Information
Hosei University will make the necessary applications on students' behalf.
Intensive language instruction
We offer intensive Japanese language instruction for exchange students during semester.
Orientation & Support Services

Post-arrival orientation of academic year 2012

Spring semester: April 4, 5 and 6, 2012
Fall semester: September 11, 12 and 13, 2012
  • *Japanese language placement test will be held during the orientation.
  • *Instructions on health and safety and services available to students will be given during the orientation.
Estimated Cost of Living per month

Monthly living cost for exchange students is approximately ¥80,000~¥100,000 excluding monthly dormitory rent.

Scholarships

Hosei University may recommend exchange students as candidates for "JASSO SCHOLARSHIP FOR SHORT-TERM STUDY IN JAPAN". Students accepted by the Organization receive scholarships of ¥80,000 per month. (As of Academic Year 2012)
