The Hosei University Exchange Students from Overseas Program (ESOP) is an independent academic program administered under Hosei University International Center. Although ESOP is independent of Hosei University's regular faculty system, both professors and students from the regular faculties teach and study in ESOP sponsored classes, and ESOP is an integral component in Hosei University's international cooperation efforts. ESOP was established in 1997 in order to provide meaningful academic opportunities to exchange students, from our overseas partner institutions as well as individual applicants, who wish to experience the reality of modern Japan.

In 2010, Hosei University celebrated its 130th anniversary, and is a founding member of the Tokyo Dai Roku Daigaku, the six oldest major universities in Tokyo, which is roughly equivalent to the Ivy League in the US. The Hosei University Exchange Students from Overseas Program (ESOP) is located on Hosei University's Ichigaya Campus, which is literally in the center of Tokyo along the Japan Railways Chuo-Sen, Central Line, that connects long-standing national government and business offices centered around Tokyo Station, and the newly-developed metropolitan government & business offices centered around Shinjuku Station.
Hosei University's Ichigaya Campus, the oldest of Hosei University's three campuses, houses 8 of Hosei University's 15 Faculties, 11 Graduate Schools, 3 Professional Schools and main library supporting a student body of over 15,000 students. Since Hosei University's International Exchange Center and the ESOP are located on Ichigaya Campus, exchange students have the opportunity to study and socialize with regular Hosei students in all the academic and extracurricular activity offered at this campus in the heart of Tokyo.
