This program strives to cultivate specialized professionals (such as architects and building engineers) who will carry out comprehensive design studies related to architecture and cities from an interdisciplinary perspective, based on specialized knowledge and advanced technologies related to construction. It also strives to cultivate educators (instructors) and researchers with advanced planning and development skills. The program is relatively large, and over many years has produced many graduates who are active in society. The rate of advancement from undergraduate studies into graduate studies is high, and many students are accepted from Hosei University’s other faculties as well as other universities. This trend has been increasing over the years. We offer unlimited potential for growth and require your youthful passion for architecture.

Distinctive Features

  1. Diverse education and research with balanced coverage of five fields: (1) building design, (2) history of architecture and cities, (3) building structures, (4) building environments, and (5) building construction methods
  2. An open educational environment made possible by a course-specific admissions system with different target audiences and enrollment terms (select from a one-year course, comprehensive two-year course, or career-focused three-year course).
  3. A studio-focused design education that appeals to students interested in obtaining international architecture certifications
  4. Vast internship opportunities in which students can obtain practical experiences required for obtaining class 1 architecture certification
  5. International training exchange program that allows students to have first-hand experience of overseas architecture trends  and community design.

Goals

This program is striving to cultivate the following five types of sensibilities and skills:

  1. Planning and proposal skills: the ability to identify design objectives related to construction and to establish those concepts
  2. Design skills: the ability to comprehensively design a building in conjunction with a high level of individual, specialized technologies
  3. Problem-solving skills: the ability to approach architectural problems from a broad perspective and to independently and continuously find solutions
  4. Professional ethics: understanding the social responsibility aspect of architectural design, and adopting a stance for straightforwardly handling unforeseen situations
  5. Understanding of history and culture: knowledge of history and culture related to architecture and cities, which are legacies of humankind
