The Nogami Memorial Noh Theater Research Institute

The Nogami Memorial Noh Theater Research Institute was established in April 1952 to commemorate the achievements of former Hosei University President Dr. NOGAMI Toyoichiro, who was a student of NATSUME Soseki and a scholar of English Literature, developed new aspects of research into Noh theater.

The Institute puts much efforts into researching and collecting materials related to Noh theater, mainly in the form of old documents found all over Japan. Since the Institute was established, it has collected over 40,000 items, including rare and extremely valuable manuscripts dating from the Muromachi and the Edo eras.
