| Description | The exhibit presents 100 items selected from a collection of more than 2,600 kites, kite graphics, kite hardware, and other objects gathered from around the world by Ichiro Hike, the world’s foremost researcher and collector of kits. It includes kites from 10 countries, with a focus on Japanese kites. |

About Ichiro Hike (1922 - 2003)
Born in Tokyo in 1922, Ichiro Hike was one of the founders of the Japan Kite Association, an organization for which he also served as an adviser. The leading researcher on kites in Japan and around the world, Hike participated in kite contests worldwide, gave lectures on kite-related subjects, and offered instruction on kite building. His writings include An Encyclopedia of Kites (1997, Bijutsu Shuppan-Sha Co., Ltd.), a study based on more than 1,000 color photographs of kites and extensive documents and other materials collected by Hike, as well as Kites and The Definitive Guide to Japanese Kites. Hike rose to become chairman of TOSHIN-ENERGY Co., Ltd., and later served as a trustee of Zensekiren and The Japan Asphalt Association.
