Hosei University to launch two English-based Degree Programs: GBP at the Faculty of Business Administration and SCOPE at the Faculty of Humanity and Environment

Hosei University (President: Yuko Tanaka) will launch two new programs, in which all classes are to be given in English, at the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Humanity and Environment in September 2016. Below is an introduction to the programs.

Hosei University has been selected as an academic institution to be subsidized by priority under the FY2014 Top Global University Project (Type B: Global Traction Type) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The launch of the two new programs is part of our efforts toward developing a top global university.

To achieve the goal of our top global university plan, which is defined in the plan’s name as “Creating the Global University: Toward a sustainable society from pioneering Japan,” we will continue to promote academic globalization.

Aim This program is aimed at offering a curriculum, taught in English, which enables students to gain hands-on experience of Japanese companies’ global business in order to foster students to become effective leaders in the global business world in the 21st century, which has been called “the Asian century.”
Ideal Human Resources to Be Fostered by the Program Students in this program are expected to pursue their studies on their own initiative to learn both global-standards-based business administration and Japanese-style business administration and manufacturing, which can be learnt only in Japan, while sharing their learning experience and developing a sense of mutual understanding with other students with diverse backgrounds.
Tuition Fees Approximately equal to the tuition fees for the Faculty of Business Administration (Ref.: Tuition fees to be charged to the faculty’s first year students in FY2016: 1,196,000 yen)

Eligible Candidates We will call for applications from both international and Japanese students from Japan and abroad.
Aim SCOPE aims at developing three types of abilities that are necessary to tackle the questions of what a sustainable society is and how we can realize it, which have no predetermined answers.
a) Ability to analyze complexly intertwined problems and grasp reality of the situation
b) Ability to imagine the results of solution of the problems and identify the necessary resources for achieving this
c) Ability to communicate with others throughout the entire process of enlisting people’s cooperation and concentrating the power of the resulting collaboration on producing solutions
Ideal Human Resources to Be Fostered by the Program The program is aimed at developing global and local human resources so as to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society through merging global and local perspectives.

On the Admission System Common to Both Programs (Plans)

Admission Procedure The admission procedure will be based on self-recommendation and the screening of documents, including a motivation letter, score certificates of English proficiency tests such as TOEFL®, TOEIC®, and IELTS, etc.

For Reference

In April 2008, Hosei University established the Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies (GIS), which gives all classes in English. Besides the spring (April) admission system, the faculty introduced an autumn (September) admission system from FY2013.

In September 2015, Hosei University will start a Global MBA Program, which offers all classes in English, at Hosei Business School of Innovation Management.
* Applications for admission for 2015 are no longer being accepted.

Beginning with the general entrance exam for 2016 enrollment, Hosei University will introduce an admission system that uses English proficiency tests administered by external bodies. Moreover, recommendation-based admissions through an open call for globally experienced students and self-recommendation-based special admissions using the International Baccalaureate will be also implemented.
