Freshmen of Hosei University: Congratulations on your admission!

April 24, 2015

On Friday April 3, Hosei University’s entrance ceremony took place at the Nippon Budokan (Kitanomaru Park, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo), where cherry petals were fluttering in the wind.

At the ceremony, President Tanaka congratulated the freshmen and said that she expected them to acquire not only a global, but also a local perspective in order to discover the rich diversity of Japan’s local areas, and make use of such knowledge in creating their futures. A guest speaker, Mr. Ryuzo Shinomiya, a professional free diver and a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering in 1999, also delivered a congratulatory address. He talked about the importance of traveling, meeting people, and reading while being a student, and emphasized that taking on challenges, regardless of age, would pave the way to new possibilities.

Mr. Shinomiya was ranked number one in the world in free diving in 2005. He became the first Asian diver to reach 100 meters in 2008, and set an Asian record by diving 115 meters in 2010.

At the ceremony venue, copies of The Hosei Herald, a newspaper published by current Hosei students to introduce attractive features of the university was distributed, drawing the freshmen’s avid attention.

The ceremony was attended by approximately 7,300 freshmen from undergraduate faculties, graduate schools, and the School of Correspondence Education. We sincerely hope that their new life at Hosei University will be fulfilling and enjoyable.
