Hosei University Briefing Session Held in Indonesia

November 8, 2013

On October 26 and 27, the Japan Education Fair was held in Surabaya and Jakarta in Indonesia under the sponsorship of the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). The fair aimed to provide students who want to study in Japan with educational information of universities and other institutes, thereby encouraging them to study in Japan. At this fair, Hosei University displayed and distributed materials, with its staff members conducting individual consultations.

Prior to the Japan Education Fair, the Hosei University Briefing Session was held on October 26 in Jakarta as a program to interact with our alumni. Attendees from the University were Prof. Yoshiro Fukuda, Vice President for International Affairs; Kimiyoshi Hayashi, Corporate Secretary of the Hosei University International Center; and Kenetsu Takahashi, Manager of the International Exchange Division. During this session, Vice President Fukuda delivered a briefing on the current state of the University. Fourteen alumni of the University who now live in Jakarta or surrounding areas joined the session, including not only Japanese alumni working in Indonesia for a long time, but also former foreign students from Indonesia. This spring, our alumni founded Hosei University Alumni Association Orange Club in Indonesia.

Vice President Fukuda talked about how Japan has moved into the era of free college admissions, in which all applicants can enroll in college due to the notable trend of declining birthrates in Japan in recent years. He also reported on our reforms at each campus, the variety of internationalization projects that the University is involved in, and so forth. The alumni heard with great interest the current state of their alma mater after such a long time. Following the briefing, there was a lively exchange of views among the attendees and a question-and-answer session.
