The 32nd Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest for International Students

July 16, 2013

On Saturday, July 6, the 32nd Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest for International Students was held in Satta Hall. The Hosei International Club (Hi-C Orange) hosts the contest every year with the support of the Hosei University Supporters Association and Hosei University International Center.

For the speech contest, each of the international student contestants prepares and elaborates his/her speech with the help of a Japanese student advisor for about two months.
Many international students applied for the speech contest this year as usual. Among them, 12 students from five countries – the U.S., the U.K., Uzbekistan, South Korea, and China – took part in the contest and expressed their feelings and thoughts from their daily student life in Japan.
On the day of the contest, a large number of people gathered in Satta Hall to hear their speeches. The audience included not only our students, but also President Masuda, many staff members, and many members of supporters’ and alumni associations.

The contestants had prepared their speeches so elaborately, based on a wide variety of viewpoints – about such topics as Japanese culture, their student life in Japan, and their own cultures – that their speeches fascinated the huge audience.
In the end, Lee Seung-Hwan (from South Korea), a third-year student in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Business Administration, won the Grand Prize for his speech titled “Love”.
It was a splendid day, and all the participants were deeply impressed by how enthusiastically the international student contestants and their Japanese student advisors had prepared for the contest over the past two months or so, giving them all a warm round of applause.

You can watch video of the contest on the “Hosei University on Video” page of our website.
